Research
Favians primary research interests include: socio-cultural dimensions of health, social stratification, and population-based health surveillance. Favian has served as the principal investigator for the American Indian Adult Tobacco Survey (AI-ATS) which he has implemented on eight tribal reservations within the Northern Plains. In 2008-2009, Favian conducted secondary analysis of health surveillance data to identify current and life time asthma prevalence among adults within five tribal communities within the states on North and South Dakota. Favian has been a member of research teams that investigated expert opinion regard child welfare legislation and the impacts of cultural maintenance. In addition to his quantitative work, Favian has also managed a qualitative study that explored and elucidated traditional Lakota protocol and oral history surrounding traditional tobacco.

Favian has experience conducting needs and asset assessments of health care and education systems in order to promote congruency with best practice models. Favian is committed to the development of initiatives that synchronize cultural competence with evidence-based practice. Favian continues to lead efforts to plan, implement, and evaluate training and technical assistance to both professionals and community members.
Favian currently serves as the Director of Programs for the Health Education and Promotion Council and is a key partner for the National Native Commercial Tobacco Abuse Prevention Network . Through his professional work Favian remains committed to strengthening traditional African and American Indian cultural systems. Favian is the proud father of two daughters and maintains a strong connection to his West-Indian cultural heritage.
Favian Kennedy graduated with a double major in sociology and psychology from Black Hills State University in 2001, and received a Masters degree from Howard University in macro social work in 2003.
