WOMENS GROUP PARTNERS WITH HANNAH MEDICAL CENTER
Womens health becomes a priority for the Ladies Auxiliary in El Dorado when they decided to become a Passionate Partners with the Hannah Medical Center (HMC). The Ladies Auxiliary began their partnership last month by deciding the give a monthly gift of $500 to HMC. The partnership will continue Thursday when the ladies are invited to the HMC for a tour and demonstration of the services offered.
It is extremely important for us as a ministry to make sure we are communicating with our supporters and we are so excited to include the Ladies Auxiliary in those supporters. Our ministry cannot survive without the support of our community, and when someone or a group becomes a supporter, we want them to understand exactly what they are supporting. We believe that once they understand exactly how we are dedicated to the health of our women, teenagers, and community, then they will want to become more involved with our ministry, explained Angie Wolfe, Executive Director of HMC.
The ladies will be not only taking a tour of the center, but also sitting through a mock counseling session, reviewing literature, and participating in activities that are part of HMCs Sexual Integrity Program. There will also be a time of questions and answers about the other ministry opportunities provided by HMC. To become a member of HMCs Passionate Partners or for more information about how your organization can partner with HMC, please contact Chelcy _ 870-862-1317 or by email _ chelcy.taylor_hannahmedical.com
MORNING SHOW HOSTS COMES TO EL DORADO
JJ Jasper, weekday morning show host on the American Family Radio (AFR) network, returns to South Arkansas to speak at the Hannah Medical Center (HMC) fundraising banquet Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.
JJ Jasper is a 20-year veteran on-air radio personality. His morning radio show reaches approximately 200 stations in 36 states. After listening to JJ on the radio, we were so excited to have him at one of our banquets. He has such a love for children and families that we couldnt resist inviting him to our banquet in El Dorado, said Angela Wolfe, Executive Director of the Hannah Medical Center.
JJ made his debut appearance in Camden in April at another HMC banquet. He was a huge hit. We had numerous requests to invite him every year, says Wolfe.
JJ not only motivates listeners with his unique brand of humor and encouragement on AFR, but he also entertains as a stand-up comedian and keynote speaker at all sorts of civic, community and church functions all across the nation. He is the author of Moses Was A Basketcase, a collection of humorous personal essays plus a childrens book, When I Grow Up, and he just recently released a comedy DVD The JJ Jasper I Hope I Break Even Tour.
Listeners might not recognize him, but JJ also had a cameo in the movie Fireproof. JJs diverse interests have led him down many paths including when he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, his home states highest non-military honor. But, among todays hot-button issues, the thing which most fully ignites his passion can be summed up in the word: family. JJs radio listeners and live audiences never doubt that he is pro-family, pro-marriage, pro-freedom and pro-America.
HISTORY
Our Story...
In early 1999, a group of caring citizens from many different churches in El Dorado got together and discussed ways to deal with the growing problem of teenage sexual activity and unplanned pregnancies (regardless of age) in their area. From that initial meeting The South Arkansas Caring Pregnancy Center (SACPC) was born.
SACPC was incorporated in the fall of 1999 and opened the doors in May of 2000. Jeanie Munzberger was the founding director with drive, initiative and experience. She put together a team of pastors, doctors, lawyers and other concerned citizens both Catholic and Protestant who had the same passion she did for women and teens in crisis. This team set out the parameters of serving our tri-county area.
Jeanie served as the first director until her husband transferred. Then, Linda Fitts was brought on board. SACPC opened with 7 volunteers, a donated office space, and many material items for client use. In June of 2001, God called Linda to another position and two new directors were called to job share the Executive Directors position. Terri Hegi served as E.D. client services and Debora L. Griffin as E.D. of administration. The directors quickly realized that SACPC was at risk of becoming an enabling agency instead of a crisis ministry. They were seeing only poverty driven needs - women who had children but lacked the ability to support those children, rather than pregnant women who were making life altering decisions about the pregnancy.
To combat this problem, the directors instituted a three prong approach. Prevention Ministries would serve the need to teach teenagers biblical sexual integrity (saving sex for marriage). Intervention Ministries would draw in the client in an unplanned pregnancy and support, encourage and educate her through her decision making process. The Redemption Ministries would mentor that woman through whichever decision she choose: Parenting, Adoption, or Abortion.
"Am I pregnant?" is usually the first question a client has when they come throught the doors, so the center began using lab quality tests and sending clients to Dr. Ratcliff who was assisting with ultrasounds. However, it quickly became apparent that if women were not receiving an ultrasound the first time they came for a pregnancy test, they were not returning. To reach the women on their first visiy, HMC needed to convert to a limited medical clinic. This included hiring a R. N., changing the name, and offering ultrasounds in our clinics. At this time, we also began opening our satellite locations in Magnolia and Camden. At this time, Terri Hegi resigned her directorship so that monies would be available for a nurse manager, Liberty Baptist Association paid for a renovation in Camden to provide facilities there and a defunct church in Magnolia donated a facilities for Columbia County. (For a more detailed history of the Magnolia and Camden locations, please click the links above.)
In February of 2004 the South Arkansas Caring Pregnancy Center fully converted to a limited medical facility with an R.N. on staff, a new office, new name (Hannah Medical Center) and a brand new ultrasound machine. As the clinics and there ministries continued to grow, HMC began to see the need to enhance their prevention ministries. In 2005, the first Sexual Integrity Classes were taught at Barton Middle School and Washington Elementary School. These classes consisted of a one -class presentation about STD's from the Nurse Manager, Trish Hamshar. From this humble beginning, the idea for a full abstinence education program was born. In spring of 2006, the Sexual Integrity Program (SIP) began teaching in 12 schools in a limited number of classess. This program grew extremely fast and now serves over 4,000 students in the 6-9 grade.
From there is Hannah Medical Center now serves almost 300 women and children a year in our tri-county area. Women who choose life for their pregnancies are provided with opportunities to earn resources for their families. The Sexual Integrity Program is close to reaching its goal of presenting to all 5000 + students in 6-9 grade and some 10-12 graders in all three counties. Our post-abortive SaveOne groups minister to the heart of women who made abortion choices anywhere from 15-20 years ago to just last month.
Thank you for your support of this ministry. Without God none of it would have happened and God uses His people (you) to bring about His work. Thank you.
