On the 28th April 1883 a meeting was called by a local tobacconist and fishing tackle dealer, this meeting took place in the market room of the Three Pigeons public house in Guildford.
Gentlemen anglers were invited to the meeting to discuss the formation of an angling club which would be called The Guildford Angling Society. The meeting was very successful and on the 1st May 1883 the first committee was elected.
On the 8th May the fist AGM was held and the Society's rules were established
