The company was set up by (guess who?) Grant Smeaton to present shows and events for stages all over the world. Shows that make you smirk and make you think. Shows that twist the norms of life and celebrate the unusual. Bright and vivid and visceral.
When Grant Smeaton was about 6 he could be found performing dramas with local children. (Sometimes nude.) And then school in the west of Scotland knocked all that exhibitionism out of him. But the showing off resurfaced at age 14 when he blacked up and wore his granny's curly wig - I blame the school - to play Joe in Showboat. Some say rivalling Paul Robeson's renowned performance. Then off to study maths at Strathclyde University. That was boring. But the lust for the spotlight could not be supressed! Some theatre training at Glasgow Arts Centre followed by a diverse career as founder and director of Hopscotch Theatre Company and Tangerine Productions and countless performances in theatre and television - notably an original member of the Arches Company UK and regular appearances on BBC comedies - have now brought him here. Grant Smeaton presents...
BETTE/CAVETT
It's 1971. The dawn of the decade of trash. She's the 63 year old Queen of Hollywood. He's the host who gets the guests his rivals can't get near. Meet Bette Davis. Meet Dick Cavett.
Using verbatim text and studded with some hilariously un-PC 70s commercials, BETTE/CAVETT re-imagines one of the most candid TV meetings of all time - sliding down the rose-tinted sunglasses of our perceptions of the old days and challenging our tendency to glamorize the past.
Coming up. . .
Ms Davis on - drink and drugs in Hollywood... . .losing her virginity. . .and being attacked by wasps in Scotland. . .
. . .We'll be right back!
