G.O.S Book Fair
On 1-2 April our school held its second annual Book Fair. We had four publishers present, representing Scholastic, Aeon Books, Macmillan and Cambridge University Press.
Most of us enjoyed it very much, and that included GOS primary and secondary students, teachers and parents. Many of us enjoyed looking through books, discovering new books and buying books.
Lots of primary students loved to read Macmillan, and Aeon Books, and Secondary seemed to prefer Scholastic and Cambridge University Press.
Teachers, like Mrs. Halligan, kindly bought and donated books to our school library, as did other primary and secondary students, teachers and parents.
I hope we can have another great Book Fair next year too.

Maths week
Maths week started on 1st April 2010 and ran through until 5th April. Maths week involved team work and was done by both primary and secondary classes.
During the week we had a lot of games and exercises to do. Some of these games were a lot easier than others, but some were very hard. They were all different.
The exercises were also fun to solve. If we won any of these games we would get two chocolates or candies each. The more games we played, the more chocolates we would get! We only had to give 0.5 RMB or 1 RMB to play each game.
Maths week also had some fun things to do on the computer. We played "Mathletics." This game had us competing against other children in Maths.
The game is a kind of brain teaser (Mental Maths). It made the students play more and more, so that they would earn a certificate when they had a score of more than 4000. Some students were so interested that they would also come in break and lunch to play this live game.
Every student in secondary section had to play the game. The more the children played, the more they became intelligent in Maths, which made it easier for the teachers to teach Maths.

Shenzhen Daily Junior Journalist
On 16th of April, 2010, people from the Shenzhen Daily newspaper came to Green Oasis School and made a presentation to the Set 1 English classes. It was good.
They told us a lot of information about news, journalists, interviews, and news reporting. They also asked some questions about those things and students, like Jessica from our newspaper team, answered them excitedly.
At the end, they told us that on 17th of April, the next day, there would be a junior journalist competition in Shangbao building and that many students would participate in it.
A lot of students from GOS were there. The organisers made us answer some questions. When we finished, we needed to do a speaking test.
It was pretty easy for me, because the questions were at a level for students new to English, for example, How are you? What is your name? Do you like English?
Afterwards, we could decide whether to sign up or not. I signed up for it, because it was fun.

Year 9 Options Evening on 29th of April 2010
The staff of Green Oasis would like say a big thank you to all the students and parents who attended the options evening on such a rainy evening.
Everyone met in the lecture theatre, where parents were welcomed by teaching staff and the new head of high school, Mr. Lane Lambert. He presented an insightful PowerPoint on how Year 9 students could choose their optional courses for Year 10.
We then moved to the blue area where teachers had prepared detailed exhibition stands to promote the exciting new range of optional courses being offered at the school next year.
Teachers, parents and students seemed to enjoy the chance to talk together about the various choices available.
It was a really successful evening and an opportunity, not only for parents and students to learn about the courses, but for teachers new and old to meet parents and show our enthusiasm for the courses being offered.
