Grant Duncan- Need to Get Away
Grant Duncan
Singer, songwriter Grant Duncan is based in Auckland, NZ and has his roots firmly entrenched in the UK indie music world. After extended stints in the UK, Australia & Japan he has built up a catalogue of independent releases and a solid amount of experience in live performing. As front-man for Tokyo-based Pavement Candy from 2004-2008, Duncan wrote and performed with the band over 50 original numbers at hip indie venues such as The Rock Factory in Roppongi, The Fiddler in Takanobaba and The Ruby room in Shibuya. The group released independently 3 full studio albums that they self-produced and released via their website and at live gigs. Since his return to NZ in 2008, Duncan has been busy writing and recording at his home studio Mt Eden Road Studios, and after a brief stint in Malaysia released, Stories from Cyber, a 9-track journal of his experiences is South-East Asia in May 2011. The album was reviewed by Real Musician and after the release of a follow-up EP Two birds One Stone in September 2011 Duncan also featured in the ‘Hot and Rising’ section of risingmag.com an innovative online indie musician magazine based in LA. “Sixties rock is not dead. It’s been resurrected and dirtied up little in the music of Grant Duncan. Songs anchored in Jimi-esque guitar licks and poppy chord progressions dominate this retro landscape. Don’t expect any note-for-note imitations, though. Duncan is his own man. His guitar is clearly the focus here, while the other instruments – a basic rock-band line-up of bass and drums – only appear in a simple supporting role.” Jamie Anderson INDIEMUSIC.COM- review Jan 6 2007 “This week, I’m digging Grant Duncan, who’s from the UK, and has a very middle-years Beatles sound, especially in this track. This is an awesome pick-me-up song, repeating things like “it’s not your fault” and admonishing all of us to keep the ol’ chin up. Excellent for those rainstorms that we need so badly around here…” http://gettinggruntled.com- Oct 10 2008 ...his music encompases tight melodies with a vareity of different guitar testures... risingmag.com- Sep 2011
