GOOD COUNTRY GAB
Good Country People is a roots-music band which offers up creative interpretations of traditional songs, from 19th Century barroom tunes to sailing shanties to bluegrass gospel to old-timed-up 1980s new wave. We're a collaborative group of eclectic folk collectors and performers playing traditional neighborhood music in festivals, cafes and barrooms, in parks, on stages, and under porches, with guitars, banjos, mandolins, bouzoukis, accordions, washboards, fiddles, and trumpets.
We started collecting and sharing classic and obscure old-time, folk, bluegrass, gospel, and new songs in the foyer of Andy's home and Charlie's porch, accompanied by tea and beer. We first shared our music with Montessori students at culture fest and when the adults enjoyed themselves as much as the kids, our band officially formed.
The band name was taken from Flannery OConnors Good Country People. With four Flannery-lovin professors in the band, what'd you expect?
