When I was 9 years old my schoolteacher asked us to paint a swimming pool.
I remember drawing the swimming pool from a birds eye view. It looked like an architectural plan when I completed the project. When the teacher saw my painting she was impressed by the unique approach and detail I took towards my assignment of drawing the pool and encouraged me to hone my talents and abilities. Her encouragement had a positive effect on me and I began to spend a lot of extra time drawing and painting. I began painting as a hobby and it was not long before it developed into a passion and I began to see what others would overlook. At that point I started realizing that I have a different perspective on the uniqueness of the world compared to other people.
At the age of fifteen, I enrolled in a special high school that primarily focused on a curriculum with a strong emphasis on the fine arts. In my studies, I especially enjoyed graphic arts. During this time I displayed a lot of my artwork, which included photography, painting, printing, illustration, etc. in various group galleries. Furthermore, in my senior year I participated in an art competition where I designed a calendar and was awarded the top prize among all art schools in Tehran.
After completing high school, I entered the University of Art and studied graphic design.
I consider this period the best time of my life because I was able to expand my experience and knowledge in the arts and gain a very profound perspective in the field.
Moreover, during this time, my interests began to solidify and gain further direction.
In university I had the opportunity to present my work in two group galleries. One activity that helped my intellectual and artistic development was my participation in a research project during my last year. I studied the history and origins of the ring in Iran
And how it became an ornament in Iranian and world cultures. I also examined different ring designs and their country of origin. Another aspect of my research project was the evolution of the ring as symbolic object in marriage. This research culminated into a thesis that I defended prior to graduation from university.
After graduation from University I began to design logos for UNICEF on shirts, mugs, calendars, bags, greeting cards, bookmarks, and watches. The logos were inscriptions
from the ancient rings that I had studied in my thesis project. I modified these inscriptions by analyzing them and adding color to them. In addition to learning a great deal in this pursuit, it was rewarding to know that I worked for an institution that aims to help children from poverty-stricken regions of the world.
In retrospect during high school and university my favorite courses were photography. I would spend most of my time in dark room, constantly striving to make my work better and seek new ways to improve or create techniques that would display my vision to the world. My Experiences have brought me to a point in which I have a deep interest in pursuing Photography. I enjoy art because of the variety and the infinite room
for growth. However, photography is especially appealing to me because it requires, in addition to artistic talent, and understanding of life and society. I look forward to the opportunity of further improving my art skills and gaining insight into important humanistic aspects of art during my education at Academy of Arts.
