The internet age has without a doubt arrived and it appears to be here to stay. This has brought about huge changes in the book publishing world. Firestarter Publications is working to help harness the electronic advantages that have been placed before us for the glory of God. Whether it's formatting, editing, or inspiring ideas you need, we are here to walk you through the jungle of the book publishing world. With a vast array of tools now available through electronic media and telecommunications Firestarter Publications can work with new first time authors online, by phone, emails and video conferencing. Getting your work published really is easier than you can possibly believe!
The initial cost to get your book published has changed considerably as well. In the recent past it could cost a new author well into the hundreds if not thousands of dollars to get their work published and to get just a few copies in hand. However, this is no longer so in todays publishing world. To have a copy of your new book in hand you are only required to purchase one copy. The cost of a single book can range anywhere between $7 to $25 depending on the size of the book and number of pages. You can choose to order one book or thousands. It is all up to you. You retain the ownership of your manuscript and the royalties are 70/30 in most cases. You do not have to ship any books useless you choose to do so. They can be shipped directly from the publisher or from large marketing giants like Amazon.
Firestarter Publications works in conjunction with Lulu Publishing who does the printing and marketing of our publications and Kindle who is an Amazon extension. Firestarter Publication in joining forces with these two publishing and marketing giants can help authors create and publish their book with ease. This is really great as it allows first time authors to get their book published with minimal hassle and start up investment.

From the heart of a woman By Sylvia Hensel
In the midst of prayer and intercession Sylvia Hensel takes dictation from her heart the very real love and embracing that she experiences with God. These experiences are for us all if we will take her advise and fall in love with the God of the universe. The creator of all things that longs to have this kind of love relationship with us.
This is not a devotional or just give me a good feeling book. This is straight from the heart of the Father, God through the Holy Spirit to one of his children. This is love unleashed, love exposed, love enduring, love unconditional. This glimpse into the heart of Sylvia Hensel Is none other than a glimpse into the heart of our God who so loves us. This is not just a good literary work because you dont just get stuff like this from your imagination. It comes from a very real place and person, Jesus. Sylvia Hensel merely took dictation to reveal what a love relationship sounds like, looks like, feels like. In her own words: "So many times when I am in prayer, I find myself transported to another place. I feel myself being lifted up on arms of love to a realm of oneness with my Lord. These are my personal love letters to Jesus. Jesus would have us claim him as our spiritual husband and that our desire should be toward him."
Well done John Perry. I feel like I know George Washington Carver enough now to introduce him to a friend.
John Perry is quickly becoming an expert on famous Godly men. His Christian Encounters series includes such greats as Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, and George Washington Carver. His Generals series includes General John J. Pershing, and Robert E. Lee.
In His book about George Washington Carver he reveals the real person behind the famous Peanut Man. He is so much more and Mr. Perry gives us a clear unbiased look at Georges character as well as his failures and amazing achievements. Mr. Perrys ability to speak frankly about the private life as well as the public life of George Carver is brilliant. He is a great historian and able to use real facts and letters to back up his wonderful portrayal of this man. I especially loved the way that George professed his faith in the practical living of life and loving the ones that were put into his care as students. His eight cardinal virtues that constitutes a lady or a gentleman. 1st. Be clean both inside and outside. 2nd. Who neither looks up to the rich or down on the poor. 3rd. Who loses, if need be, without squealing. 4th. Who wins without bragging. 5th.Wo is always considerate of women, children and the old people. 6th.Who is too brave to lie. 7th. Who is too generous to cheat. 8th. Who takes his share of the world and lets other people have theirs.
The Final Summit
By Andy Andrews
I have never read any of Andys other works but I will now because of the impact his Final Summit has made on me. This is about a supernatural travel through time to gain answers and insight from the worlds most valued people. Andy has woven suspense, time travel, supernatural beings, historically key people, and God himself into an Ingenious and Powerful book on the state of the human race and what can be done to turn the destructive tide. Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln just to wet your curiosity. The wisdom that the main character receives from the various historical figures is timeless.
The historical figures are called Travelers and here are few quotes. For if you are still breathing then you are still alive and if you are still alive that means that havent accomplished what you were placed on earth to do. If you havent accomplished what you were put on earth to accomplish, this signifies that your lifes very purpose has yet to be fulfilled. If your very purpose has yet to be fulfilled, that is proof that the most important part of your life remains ahead of youend of quote. Chance has corrupted your minds, for now, many of you dare to attribute your world, your universe, your very existence. To chance. End of quote.
Insightful and Timely for this 21st Century. I would compare Andy Andrews to a C. S. Lewis or Gene Edwards of today.
Going Deep, Becoming a person of Influence by Gordon MacDonald is a book about a minister that realizes his church is in for trouble down the road if things dont change. Church as normal i.e. Come at 9, sing, sit, listen, greet your neighbor, give your money leave at 10 or 11 isnt going to cut it today. Why are we meeting like this? Why dont the people in the church know each other better? Gordons answer comes from outside the box, his unsaved neighbor, who challenges him to have a good concise story of what his church is all about. He realizes that depth is what is missing. People actually taking the time to invest in each other and their faith. Caring whether or not each other is going deeper in their faith.
I thought the book was captivating yet slow. I found myself impatient to know the end results of the CDP (Cultivating Deep People) initiative yet not wanting to miss anything. It read more like a persons journal than a sit down good book to read and yet it kept me wanting to know the next person, the next step, the next achievement. Gordon made you feel as though you were an active part of the book and in turn causes you to want to go deep in your faith and walk as well. I did however in my impatience skip several chapters due to the monotony of the conversations.

How Do I get Started
This is the place where most new authors are stummped. Where do I start. You already have a transcript typed out and may be even submittied it to various places only to be told NO. Don't despair. There are many web sites out there today to help you get published. We have chosen Lulu.com for reasons of expediency and ease. You will however still need to have your work edited, typeset, and formatted to meet the industry standards. The buttons to the left will give you the details of what is needed however:
The Industry Standards are as simple as:
1. You must have a title page. The name of your book and who wrote it.
2. You must have a copyright page. The title of book, the author, the ISBN # if you have one, Copyright date and by who, your publisher's name and address, any disclaimers or statements you want to make about characters, fiction, sources of bible quotes etc.
3. Your last page must be blank
4. Your total pages must be divisible by 4
5. Pages must be numbered. Your first page does not need the page number
Everything else in between these pages is yours. How you want it to look or what you want it to say. You do have some artistic license in this. But still you must remember that a digital conversion of your book requires certain etiquette. Lulu only allows certain Fonts. Your font size should be between 10 and 12 for the text.
If you already have your manuscript proof read and edited then the process to publishing your work is fairly simple. You will go to Lulu.com where you will simply choose the size you wish to have your book published, choosing a paperback or hardback cover, the quality of paper and type of binding. Then upload your manuscript to Lulu. You will then design a cover for your book through a cover wizard. After designing the cover of your new book you will review it and then it is ready for publishing.
If however you still need help with proofing, editing, type setting or simply have questions please don't hesitate to contact us. We would be glad to help with the process any way we can.
If you are planning to upload your own PDF, you may use any fonts you like, but you must embed the fonts in the PDF before uploading to Lulu. If you are planning to have Lulu convert your document to a PDF, be sure to choose fonts from the following list. If you use a font that is not on this list, the Lulu converter will substitute one of these fonts in its place. This may adversely affect your formatting.
Arial
Book Antiqua
Bookman Old Style
Century
Courier
Garamond
Palatino
Tahoma
Times New Roman
Verdana
Symbols
Follow these general guidelines when choosing your fonts:
Serif fonts are best for printed documents. Serif fonts are those that have the little lines at the end of each character. Use serif fonts like Garamond, or Times New Roman for blocks of body text.
Sans serif fonts are best for online documents and for display text. these are the fonts that are straight lines without the little caps and line such as the font used on this page. Use sans serif fonts like Arial and Verdana if you intend your book to be viewed online. Use bold sans serif fonts for title text or headings.
Industry Standards for Publishing
The industry requires that your book adhere to certain standards, and it is up to you to ensure your book meets these requirements. If your book is submitted before it meets these requirements, it will be rejected and your book distribution will be delayed while you work to bring your book into compliance.
I. Requirements for all book covers . This is if you are going to design your own cover insteead of using Lulu's cover wizard.
A . If including the retail price on the cover, it must exactly match the retail price for the book. Lulu does not add the price to the book cover.
B. Keep all important text and images at least 0.375" (.25" bleed area + .125" safety area) from all sides (including the spine) of the cover. This area may be trimmed off or obscured by the cover bend.
C . Keep in mind that B&W 8.5 x 11" books will be printed at 8.25" x 11" through the retail channels, so you may need to increase the distance of any text or images from the edges to take this into account.
D. Spine text must be at least .0625" away from all edges of the spine. Text that is too close to the edge of the spine will be reduced in size to fit. (This may result in very small text on the spine of the book.)
1. Additional requirements for one-piece covers:
a. Use these dimensions prescribed by Lulu.com
b. Cover must have correct 13-digit ISBN/EAN. This is a downloadable .jpg that Lulu will give you in the process
c. Bar codes must be provided in black and white.
d. Bar codes should be 1.833" wide by 1" high.
e. There cannot be spine text on books with less than 80 pages.
II. Requirements for book interiors
A . If providing a PDF it must be distilled using Adobe; if uploading a word processing document, Lulu will distill it using Adobe.)
B. Embed all fonts (and all font family members used) when distilling the PDF.
C . Book must have a Title page.
D . Book must have a Copyright page with your correct 13-digit ISBN/EAN and a copyright notice. The Copyright page must come after the Title page.
E . Final page of each book must be completely blank.
F. Margins must be at least .5" on all sides. The left margin must be equal to the right margin, and the top margin must be equal to the bottom margin.
G . A gutter may be added to the document in addition to the margins. This is extra space on the spine side of your book
H. Page numbering must be correct. No page numbers may be skipped. A page can go without a number, but it must be counted and consistent.
I. All files should be submitted at high-resolution (between 300 dpi and 600dpi).
J . If any page in the book will have color or images that extend to the edge of a page (full bleed), format the document according to the full bleed specifications.
K. If the page count is not divisible by 4, the printer adds enough blank pages to the back of the book to make it so.
III. Requirements for the Publishing Wizard
A. Book Description, Author and Title must use a Latin Character set. We cannot accept Russian, Chinese, Japanese and other non-Latin characters.
Editing check list
When you publish your book, there are a number of things you must do;
make the table of contents, format your manuscript, design a cover. But hidden in these things are a number of elements that are very easy to overlook:
1. Consistency
Subtle differences in fonts, size and spacing can make your book difficult to read and gives it a sloppy look. The best way to prevent this is to maintain your manuscript in a single file. When you make a change, make it to the entire document. This also makes it easier to number the pages.
2. Page Size
When you upload your document to our book wizard, our software changes your manuscript into a PDF file of the appropriate size for your book. If your document's page size is different from your book's page size, it will have to be resized and the formatting is likely to suffer. Text can be moved, shrunk, or enlarged to meet the new size specifications. Your page count may also change which may impact your page numbering and affect the cost of your book. To avoid this problem, set your document's page size to match the page size of your book.
3. Simplicity
Using the 'Select All' features of your editor (MS Word, usually) you should select a common, easy-to-read serif font such as Garamond or Times New Roman. Use this single font across all chapters. You can use a slightly different font for chapter titles and such, but in general, stick to a single font.
4. White Space
Look at your cover and your content. Is there plenty of border (white space) around your text? At the start of each chapter, try pushing your text down to the halfway point on the page and center the chapter title in the middle of the now empty space on the top of the page. Be sure to give yourself at least 1" borders all around. This only holds true for printed books. It is a detriment to e-books
5. Initial Caps
When you start a chapter, use initial caps (often called drop caps). That's when the first letter in a chapter is very large, spanning 2-3 lines. Editing tools such as MS Word have a Drop Caps option under the Format menu. Don't get too carried away; you don't want to lose readability. Raised and Adjacent caps are subtle variations on this very distinctive typesetting tool.
6. New Pages
If you have used the Enter/Return key to begin new pages, i.e. for chapter headings, you may find that your chapters begin at the bottom of the page before them. Using actual Page Break commands (CTRL-Enter in Microsoft Word, or Insert --> Break --> Page Break if you use the menu) will eliminate this problem, and begin pages exactly where you want them. This is especially advisable for books which contain full-page images. Sandwiching the image between two page break commands will ensure it remains alone on its page.
7. Headers and Footers
Start your page numbering so that page one is on your right as you look at the book. Headers and footers should be unobtrusive. Traditionally, the left headers (even pages) are the book title and right headers (odd pages) are chapter title. The first page of a chapter should have a blank header. MS Word has its most useful header and footer controls in Page Setup under the File menu.
8. Lines Per Page
Too many lines per page can make a book very difficult to read. For a 6" x 9" book, less than 30 lines per page is good. 50 lines or less is good for an 8.5" x 11" book. You can set these across your document by using 1.5 line spacing using the Paragraph tools under the Format menu.
9. Paragraph Formatting
It's easy to forget, since people don't do it on e-mail, but you should always indent paragraphs. That's why there's a tab key! You should also pay close attention to the spacing between paragraphs. There should be no space between paragraphs that take place in the same time and place. Don't forget to justify your paragraphs!
10. Gutter
Finally, most books lose a little of the readable page to the gutter, the inside margin. Microsoft Word allows you to compensate for this in Page Setup under the File menu. Set your document for Mirror Margins, Whole Document, and make the gutter 0.1 or 0.2, depending on the thickness of your book. Get your text out of the gutter!
FINAL NOTE: Be sure to upload only non-password protected documents. The printer cannot access password protected files and will not be able to print your book.
The Grace Effect by Larry Alex Taunton was no less than spell binding, quick, masterfully written. This book is about the adoption of a ten year old girl from the Ukraine by a Christian Family whose father is no less than a famous apologist for the Christian Faith. He learns up close and personal the truth of Gods fingerprint on us as human beings. He witnesses the impact of an atheistic society on this child and environment. It was truthful, educational and very real. I didnt put it down until I had read it in full. A story of great patience and apologetics without mixing words. How many dictatorships, genocides, purges, wars, famines, gulags, economic disasters, morally bankrupt leaders, and impoverished nations must the world suffer before its people realize that belief in God is necessary for the stability of civilization? I especially loved the debate at the end with a well know atheist befriended by the author. The question was: Are all religions the same? he chose to speak of the Christian doctrine which separates Christianity from all of the other faiths. Grace. While other religions offer salvation via to do lists, Christianity alone offers salvation through a Person who is accessed by the grace he so freely offers. Without grace, he argued, we are all without hope. Amen, Larry Taunton, Amen I would have loved to hear the conversation as the atheist and Larry went for coffee after the debate.
In exchange for my review, I received a free copy of The Grace Effect from Thomas Nelson through BookSneeze.com
Jeanne and Jonathan Saul
A Husband and Wife Team
Jeanne is an author, hospice chaplain and nurse, artist, publisher, mother and grandmother of 12 and a cherished happy wife.
Jonathan is a minister who enjoys playing musical instruments and encouraging others in their expression of worship of their heavenly father. He does this through fostering an atmosphere where spontaneous expression of the heart are encouraged to be released in a varity of ways. He enjoys writting, is a loving father as well as a grandfather and a loving awesome husband.
Together they happily live wherever the Lord leads them. They are often found in California or Arkansas or somewhere in between...
We are learning now more than ever to hear the Lord and obey His command to go here or there. Is it to another home? Is it to a congregation? Is it to a homeless person sitting on the bench at the train station? Where is that one that you would have us minister to? Sometimes that one is closer than where we are looking. What needs are crying out to be met? Are they physical or spiritual or both. Usually the physical that we attend to like building fences or cleaning windows or helping a book get published has a correlation to the spiritual need. It is exciting to see the Lord work in us and in others as we respond to Him in obedience and to one another in love.
A prayer:
"Father, our greatest desire is that You use us together to leave Your glory and touch in our wake. Every house we enter, every one we pray for will have had a touch from You. Your grace, Your peace, Your healing, Your joy. Whatever their need may be. Oh Lord God use our arms, mouths, hands, words, hugs, knowledge to present You to them. We want no credit, we want no payment, we want only to be emptied of the love You've given us. So that we would be able to receive more, to give more, to receive more, to give more and on and on and on. "
In His Great Love,
Jonathan and Jeanne
FIRESTARTER STORY
How Firestarter Publications Got It's Name
My sister and I make these things called firestarters. They are simply rolled up newspaper, dipped in melted wax and then cooled. We made them as girl scouts and now make them for our dad who uses one to start every fire. He places one firestarter at the base of his split logs and lights both ends. Soon there is a roaring fire without having had to crumble newspapers or use any small kindling. We joke about these firestarters having ruined a good eagle scout because now Dad won't start a fire without one. I was making these and attaching scriptures to them and giving them away at a local flea market. I made thousands, and became known as the Firestarter Lady.
Today, Firestarter Publications publishes what we hope will indeed start a fire in peoples hearts.
Our hope and prayer is that the eyes of your heart might be open to the Holy Spirit of God. That He would light a fire within you to know Him and serve Him and that you too would become a firestarter
One day while making my firestarters I was looking into the melted wax and I said to myself, "It looks like blood." I was surprised by the response that I heard in my spirit. "Yes it is blood. You are a firestarter and you will have to be covered in my blood and then be used to start other fires." I knew that the only blood I was covered with was Jesus' so I quickly got a piece of paper and the following is what I wrote. What I received coincides with the directions on how these are made. The newspapers are rolled and tied in place, then scored and separated into smaller pieces then dipped in wax, cooled, scriptures tied on and then given away to be burnt up in a fire.
START WITH NEWSPAPER
The analogy is that the newspapers represent our lives. The older the better. Accounts of activities of earth, The flesh. Daily life. All the headlines state what we think to be important in life. What others are doing or not doing. What the weather is doing or not doing. All the business of life reported.
SEPARATED AND ROLLED
in Jesus love. We are called out to be separate. To be set aside for the purposes of Christ. We are rolled and formed in such a way that it will be easy to be severed. Christ molds us into His image so that we can be seen by others as His ministers of fire. Hebrews 1:7
TIED
with cord, held in place, bound by our commitment to Him.
SEVERED
Cut, pulled apart from the world and what we thought was a part of us.
11 Cor 6:17/ Hebrews 7:26
DIPPED
in His blood, red hot wax fuses us, coats us, permeates us. Stay in this until we are soaked through. Soft, pliable, red, perfumed.
HARDENED
Cooled, made ready for use. If left too long inactive on tray they pick up clumps of unwanted wax making it hard then to apply the scriptures. So are we if we remain inactive for too long. It becomes hard for us to apply Gods word to our lives. After having been in the hot wax or the fire of life, it's temping to get comfortable when in the cooling process because it is such a relief from the fire.
WORD
His word is then attached. Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.
APPLIED
After being permeated with His blood, His word becomes a part of what we are, who we are. We now have a new purpose. Not just being able to start a fire but to start other minds thinking on God's word.
SENT OUT
In order to affect others. Firestarters are ready to be given away. We can be a witness as we go to others with His word attached to us in such a way that it is a part of our lives.
BURNED
Let your light so shine that we are used to light other fires, In doing so we are completely
CONSUMED
By giving yourself away you die to your flesh. You let your desires be consumed by the fire. There is less of you and more of Christ
A Sound like Fire Review
By K D Vernon
Although well written from an authors point of view the subject of the world coming to an end using the book of revelation as its source of information has been overused by too many. It seemed to be an attempt to put the Left Behind series into one book. You would have to believe in the Rapture Theory to enjoy this book. It left me with a sincere feeling of sadness and despair. In the Spring of the year 1830, a woman had a revelation on her sick bed, supposedly from God, in where she was shown what has become to be known as "The Rapture Of The Church." Prior to this date, the concept of a Rapture was unknown. In the description of the book it is stated: After losing all legal rights and faced with certain death, you suddenly disappear from earth and end up in a place far removed. Once there, you are taught the secrets of the universe and experience things only once dreamt, while living in total harmony with your neighbors and family. And you get to choose the world in which to live, forever. This didnt show up until the epilog. So 98% of the book was dedicated to the horrible sinful world. To K D Vernons credit though he did a great job of unveiling the Free Masons and their grip on the economical and political arena. Truths that need to be understood.
I would not recommend this book because of the fear factor so built into it. The horrible accounts that happen to Dax and the world even though some come to a faith in the end does support the fact that God is a God of grace. Just as sin came thru one mans sin (Adam) so will the redemption of all men through the one man Christ. He will destroy sin with his wrath not the people in its grip. It is a fear based idea totally unaware of the Love that He has for us.
I received this book free from the publisher through BookSneeze.com book review program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
