Meet Freda In November 2009, Carl added good friend and former elementary school principal Freda Zeh to his performances as a backup singer. Now with Freda singing, Carl is able to enjoy performing songs by Simon and Garfunkel as opposed to Simon or Garfunkel. He now performs songs by The Beatles instead of songs by a Beatle by himself.Freda, a self-confessed music geek, was born in Charlotte NC, grew up in Raleigh, and her parents report she sang before she could talk. Singing in church choir since age 8, her musical world included being a part of All-State Honors Chorus in high school, UNC-Chapel Hill Glee Club and Carteret County Chorale, performing both as soloist and in presentations in Washington, DC and New York City. During the 1990s she was an active member of the Carteret Community Theater, where she played the role of Fastrada in the musical play Pippin. Prior to moving back to Charlotte in late 2005, she was part of the Winston-Salem-based all-female singing group, Group Therapy.Since performing together in November 2009, just three months after they met, the onstage chemistry and the vocal blend of Carl and Freda have been enjoyed by many, and this new combination promises to have a bright, positive musical future.

About the artist

THE PIANO KIDCARL ROSEN was born on Long Island in Seaford, New York, on August 6, 1959. At the young age of 3, Carl began to play along with the radio on the piano, and by age 7 was known at his elementary school as "the piano kid." Totally self-taught playing strictly by ear, Carl began to play songs he'd heard on radio and television, like "Linus & Lucy" from the Peanuts animated TV series.In 1969, Carl and his family moved to Charlotte, NC where he joined the 6th grade chorus, performing his first solo at age 11. In the 1970s, during the height of Elton John's popularity, Carl began singing Elton's tunes as well as playing them on piano. Carl's reputation as an Elton sound-alike earned him his first professional gig in 1976, during his junior year in high school . At that time Carl's lineup of tunes came from artists such as Elton John, The Who, Steve Miller, The Beatles, and Paul McCartney (during his Wings career).THE WIZARD YEARSIn 1978 Carl joined a friendly group of musicians from Rock Hill, South Carolina. This band, WIZARD, performed at popular nightspots within a 75-mile radius of Charlotte. Beginning as a keyboardist and occasional backup singer, Carl became Wizard's lead vocalist in the summer of 1980, the same year the band provided backup for BILLY SCOTT & THE GEORGIA PROPHETS. That same year, 1980, Carl decided to go at it solo, penning his first original tunes and adding a significant list of tunes from BILLY JOEL. By some kind of coincidence (perhaps because they were raised some 10 miles apart?), the voices of Carl and Billy Joel sound very similar. As a result, as Billy Joel's star ascended nationally, Carl's popularity rose rapidly in the Carolinas.SOLO SUCCESSBy the summer of 1980, Carl's popularity led him to record his first single. The two songs were entitled "Girls Dream" and "You Know Who You Are." (this was back in the days of 45's...) In 1982 Carl released his first LP entitled "The Tower" featuring 9 of his own tunes plus one from Paul McCartney. This album was distributed semi-nationally and enjoyed modest success. By 1985 Carl had dived headfirst into the college circuit performing at campuses mainly in the Southeast U.S. By 1987, his territory had spread over the entire Eastern U.S. Still known mainly for his identical renditions of the greatest hits of Billy Joel and Elton John, Carl began mixing songs from those artists with his own, often injecting satirical commentaries, spoofs and impressions, including various TV show theme songs. By 1989, shows west of the Mississippi and the Rockies began. From St. Pete to Spokane, and Bangor to Yuma. The period of 1989-1998 presented the largest amount of touring, not just colleges but various clubs, festivals, theme parks and even a few casinos such as Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. RECENT WORKRecently Carl has become a regular favorite at Hershey Park Amphitheater in Pennsylvania, and a mainstay headliner at First Night New Years Eve in York, PA.
