Sustainability requires us to look at transport on land, sea, and in
tne a•We have become used to consuming ever increasing amounts of
energy, particularly electricity, and are largely dependent on energy
derived from finite and rapidly diminishing reserves of oil and gas
In the past we have taken water more or less for granted, but it is
becoming an increasing issue globally as demand rises - for
manufacturing, growing food, transport, washing more cars - and
as pollution accumulates in water supplies
The media are drawing attention to the possible consequences of
climate change - it will have profound social and political effects
such as forced migrations from low-lying cities due to flooding,
increases in vector-borne diseases, and food and water shortages
