"Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."
At Lupton we are committed to a Gaian - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis -
understanding that:
The world is a self-regulating whole 'We belong to the Earth, rather than the Earth and its resources belonging to us'Humans are not as special or priviledged as once assumed, and our existencedepends on the integrity of the web of life as a wholeThe qualities of the atmosphere, land, and oceans that provide uswith nutrition and health depend on the balance between all livingsystems and their environment

'We belong to the Earth, rather than the Earth and its resources belonging to us'
Humans are not as special or priviledged as once assumed, and our existence
depends on the integrity of the web of life as a whole
The qualities of the atmosphere, land, and oceans that provide us
with nutrition and health depend on the balance between all living
systems and their environment

We need a more holistic approach to problem solving, not the
reductionist approach that has tended to prevail until now
There is a need for more equity in health, wealth, and opportunities
- currently our world has extremes of wealth and poverty, obesity
and hunger, and even at the local level inequities are apparent
We can no longer assume that what we do here has no impact
elsewhere on the planet. For example, when we throw things
'away', they actually end up somewhere else. We need to learn
from living systems in which the outputs ('waste') from one
organism become valuable resources for other organisms
