Massive budget cuts to direct services for infants, children and adults with disabilities will be going into effect July 1, 2009 unless legislators vote for new revenue to cover an $8.5 billion statewide deficit!
· Children and adults with disabilities are going to lose direct services.
· Programs will shut down. · Staff will be laid off.
· Some community organizations may go out of business.
What's on the table for disability services to be cut? Everything is on the table and being considered: community grants, home-based services, day training, CILA, ICFDD's, supported employment, workshop, individual service coordination, university projects, everything!
And, what about the 17,000 children and adults on the waiting list? Will they have to wait forever?
This is not a bluff! All services and supports are on the table for massive cuts!
State agency directors are preparing for the cuts right now!
These are the facts.
The new state budget is anywhere from $6 to $8.5 billion short on revenue!
The Dept. of Human Services (DHS) total budget is $4 billion for this fiscal year.
The Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) budget is $1.4 billion for this fiscal year. DDD is a division within DHS.
The total budget introduced for the new fiscal year for DHS is $1.6 billion! That figure is just a little more than the entire DDD budget for this fiscal year!
