How to Make a Simple Restaurant Website

Creating good page divisions is an important part of improving your website's functionality and getting the right message across to visitors. Maintaining clear divisions for the different areas of a page makes it easier for the visitor's eye to adjust to the web design and concentrate on the content and not the context. In the Restaurant Com template, the top of the web design is dedicated to the dynamic information. As you flip through the pages the information interchanges in the main top part of the web page. The bottom of the web design has a large gray box for the menu and the right hand side on the bottom is dedicated to the restaurant's name and logo. By keeping a unified design throughout the page you are making it easier for the user to navigate the website and access the right information fast and effectively.

Mini pages are the best way to create static and dynamic information, as mentioned in the paragraph above. Mini pages can be found through the 'Page Parts' menu on the left side, and there are different types of mini-page sliders to choose from. Mini-pages are different from galleries in that you can place anything you want on a mini-page just as you would a regular page, and you can put more than one object on each page as well. Either add your own mini-page or use the one in the template. The one on the template already has a menu attached to it, and as you add new mini-pages a new menu item will appear. If you decide to use a new mini-page slider, make sure to connect all of its pages through a menu. This is easily done through the menu that appears at the bottom of the page when you click on the mini-page.

Transitions can be controlled both for galleries and mini-pages. The transition will ultimately have a strong influence on the web design and the functionality of the website. To change the type of transition and browse through the different transition types click on the mini-page or gallery and choose the 'transition' command either in the small popup menu or through the menu at the bottom of the page. The current transition will be marked with a check.

There are also a lot of galleries you can choose from. To access the gallery types simply go to the Galleries menu item on the left hand side and choose from a growing variety of gallery types. The restaurant com template already has one gallery in the home page. If you don't want to get mixed up and change things up to much you can simply change the photos in the existing gallery. Click on the gallery and choose the 'manage photos' command. This will open up a new menu. Click on the image in this menu and change the photo. This will keep the current settings while using your own images either from your computer or from another website. You can also choose any picture from the rich Wix galleries.

Color schemes an important designing tool. Having a specific and limited color scheme gives a website and any other type of design unity and form. Color schemes are usually 3-4 colors for the entire website. The color scheme doesn't even have to be perceptible, as long as you have control over the colors in the website and use this tool to control the unity and simplicity of the web design. The colors in this template are created with shapes. To change the colors simply click on the shape and choose 'color'. Now choose a different color. You can also copy the color number and paste it into the next shape to easily ensure you're getting the shades right.

Texts are an important part of marketing a website. This is not just for practical reasons, but also because search engines view a website through the texts in the website. A website crawler doesn't see images. It reads the alt text and description to know what the picture is about, hence the importance of descriptions for your images, a description and title for your website (through the settings box at the top of the builder) and good headers (achieved by using the title text box). Try to aim for 400 words on your homepage and another 250 words for the rest of your website. If you're using a mini-page as shown in the template you can spread those 400 words across several mini-pages, as they're all read as the same page as far as the search engine is concerned.
