E-books are a Smart Promotional Tool

E-books are a popular way to give your visitors something tangible for sharing their contact information with you. You can also sell e-books on your free Flash website to bring in extra revenue and set yourself up as an expert in your field.

With the contact information that you collect you can also use it to distribute newsletters and email campaigns. By offering your visitors a free e-book you will collect more contact information than if you just ask for it without offering anything.

Collecting Contact Info from Your Free Website Visitors

It is easy to set up a contact form on your free Flash website. You can add one to each page of your site to give people a chance to share their information with you easily and quickly. To add a contact form simply go to the Widgets button in the website builder, select Contact Form and choose the style you like. You can drag it to the position on the webpage that you and further customize the colors and feel of the contact box with the pop-up menu that appears when you click on the box. Each contact box has a section that your visitors can write you a message. This is handy if you want to take a survey of your visitor’s opinions or ask them questions.

PDF or Download?

In Wix, you can add files that your visitors can download if you want to offer e-books on your free Flash website. Use the Media button and choose My Files. From there choose the type of files you want to upload to your site. Once you have done that you are ready to go. You can now offer e-books on your own website!

Should you use a program like Word or create your e-book as a PDF file? Actually you can use both. Word is a good choice to format your e-book and then use Adobe’s PDF program to convert it into a PDF file. A PDF files loads easily on most computers and can be transferred to an electronic reader like Kindle. You can also create your e-book in Adobe if you are familiar with the program. You may find it easier if you are just starting out to format your e-book on Word and then use Adobe to actually publish it.

How to Design Your eBook

Like a print book, an e-book has a design to it. These are the design elements to include making your e-book look professional:

  • A simple copy write, the date and your name is sufficient. You don’t need an ISBN number unless you plan on offering a hard copy of your e-book.
  • Any acknowledgements, this is nice to do if you have used any experts to publish your book or if anyone has helped you in your effort.
  • Table of Contents. This is generated by Word once you are finished with your e-book from the titles and headings you use.
  • A header on each page helps to identify the title, page number, chapter and author. You can use less information if it starts to look cluttered. Use a smaller font than the text and you may want to make it italic for a better format.
  • In the back of your e-book you can include your bio, advertisements, flyers and contact information.

These are just general guidelines of the most standard format used today. Of course you will want illustrations and to use an easy to read font. There are many resources on the internet that can help you to create an e-book. Adobe, Microsoft and other companies all have programs and products to help.

What to Put in Your E-book?

The subject of your e-book should relate to your business and your website. If you are a plumber, you could write a short e-book about plumbing tips and maintenance a homeowner can do. Or if you are a hairstylist an e-book about the composition of hair and the best way to care for your hair might be a good choice. Any information that your visitors can use would be a good choice. You may want to publish a series of e-books on Flash website addressing a variety of aspects of your business. To use the hairstylist example again, you may publish a series that goes from the composition of hair to different ways to style your hair based on your facial shape or the different styles for face shapes. An e-book can be long or short, it is your choice.

Be creative and brainstorm some subjects. If you are not comfortable writing the actual content, you can hire a professional writer and give them a rough outline of what you want your e-book to be about. Think of an e-book as a valuable tool to promote your business’ website and use them to spread the word about what you have to offer.
