Creating a Roadmap

To build a website, you need to start with a blueprint. When an architect creates a blueprint, he considers the function of the element he is designing. The blueprint of a library won't resemble the blueprint of an adventure theme park. The same holds true for planning websites.

Your website’s blueprint is the outline for your site, providing you with a web design master plan. This can be in the form of a sketch, with boxes indicating each page you foresee your site including. Making a sketch will allow you to clearly envision the structure of your website, and will jump-start the building process.

Things to Keep in Mind:

Function

What will your site’s function be? Will it be a personal blog, an online gallery or exhibition or a promotional website for your business?

Information

What sort of information would you like people to find on your website? Once you determine your website's main subject matter you’re ready to start organizing its content. The deeper you delve into the process of creating and finding appropriate content, the more exciting the website building process becomes.

Navigation

  • How many pages should your site have?

  • What order should the pages be in?

  • How will users navigate the site? How should the menus, interactive buttons, displays and functional tools work?

Design

Your web design will for the most part be dictated by the function, information and navigation you choose to include. Think about the type visitors you want to attract. What type of web design would they appreciate? How can you please them and even surprise them?

Once you have your roadmap ready, you can work quickly with Wix's free website builder, to customize a Flash template (start from scratch), and design a beautiful and efficient website.
