BEHIND THE LENS
When it comes to photography, I’d like to think it runs in my genes. My uncle (founder and owner of Samson Productions) is also a professional photographer; my aunt is the lead-editor along with my uncle for S.P. – So I have learned from the best in the family, and also through couple of other really good photographers in my life. I started doing proper photography couple of years back. Though, art has always been a part of me since childhood. Growing up, arts was my favorite subject, that was one class where I did not have to do much in order to pull an A; I got nothing less than 100% on pretty much all of my assignments – it was a great feeling. I have always known that creativity was and is going to be a huge part of my life, whatever I do; I prefer to have some kind of role where creativity is involved.I started taking photography seriously back when I started my undergrad at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and was introduced to Yia Yang (my roommate’s good friend, who became a teacher-figure for me). He was the one person, aside from a cousin of mine who trusted me with their cameras. Yia would always push me to borrow his camera and go out to take pictures of anything that I could find. That’s when I really started getting into this absolutely mind-blowing field. Soon before I knew it, I was making a deal with my brother about getting my very first DSLR – My brother told me, “Filza, you graduate in 2009, and I will get you a camera (your choice) as a graduation present.” That’s when it all happened, I was the happiest person alive when I received my present. Still remember the day I received the package in the mail with my name written on it – I just knew, I’d be doing wonders with this piece of equipment. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from UW-Whitewater in general business administration, and have been working as a freelance photographer ever since. Along with freelance work, I also cover events, and portraitures.
