Kirk Hendrix
Over a 30-year span, Kirk Hendrix has been responsible for some of the nations largest events in some of the U.S. largest cities -- Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Detroit, and Indianapolis. In 2010, he was inducted into the International Festival & Events Association (IFEA) Hall of Fame.
As President of Las Vegas Events, he lured international sports spectacles and events to the worlds entertainment capital, stimulating economic impact exceeding $250 million annually.As President of The Parade Company and International Freedom Festival, he produced Detroits largest public events.
While Corporate Vice President of Travel, Events and Tradeshows of Affinity Group, he produced 100 annual events across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Hendrix spent his first 15 years in collegiate sports as Assistant Commissioner of the Pac-10 Conference and as Associate Executive Director of college footballs Fiesta Bowl. He helped develop the Disneyland Pigskin Classic. He served as sports information director at Iowa State, New Mexico State, and Creighton University.
He was Co-Venue Press Chief of the 1984 Summer Olympics (Los Angeles). He served on the NCAA Final Four Special Events Committee and is a member of the 2012 Super Bowl Civic Advisory Council.

Becky Genoways is the President and CEO of On the Waterfront, Inc. a multiple event production company located in Rockford, Illinois.
The companys flagship event, the On the Waterfront Festival presented by Associated Bank is Illinois largest music festival. A three-day Labor Day weekend event, encompassing 30 city blocks in the center of the city, On the Waterfront includes 100 performers on 7 stages, over 30 special events, and 50 local not-for-profit food vendors. The festival is supported by the efforts of over 5,000 volunteers with annual attendance of over 300,000 people and has generated over $9.1M for more than 200 not for profit organizations in 24 years with an economic impact of 13.1 million dollars annually.
Genoways has been involved in the festival and event industry for over 30 years, is a Certified Festival and Event Executive and is currently serving on the Board of Directors and Presidents Council of the International Festival and Events Association. She has been CEO of On the Waterfront, Inc. since 1998. During her tenure, the company has expanded the product offerings to include the Stars & Guitars Concert Series, a music walk and golf play day.

Paul Gudgin has over 20 years experience in the management of festivals and events and was for 8 years the Director of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This was during an exciting period that saw the event double in scale hosting 12,000 performances and selling over 8 million tickets. Paul is the Senior Consultant at the Edinburgh Institute for Festival and Event Management at Edinburgh Napier University, This course provides a unique opportunity to work with one of the worlds leading festival and event management professionals.

Recognition is something that we all seek for our festival or event, whether it be financial through such grant programs administered through Celebrate Ontario, Trillium, TEMPP, OCAF, Ontario Arts Council and Canadian Heritage or through the annual FEO TOP 100 Festivals & Events and related industry recognition award programs. In this eagerly sought session, listen to what representatives from these organizations are able to share with you.
When planning a festival or event, you hope you'll never to encounter inclement weather, a riot, medical emergency, unpredictable performing artist, security issues or a structural collapse... but what if you do? An expert panel of industry professionals from various backgrounds will discuss these and other unanticipated situations and the importance of having an Emergency Plan and team at your disposal if required.

Think Creatively! A Toolkit on How to Expand Your Family Programming Beyond Festivals and Events and into Long-Term Sustainable Community Outreach Programs
Think Creatively will provide information on: how to build momentum for your festival or event, family programming year round; how to reach out and bring together diverse community groups; how to stimulate local partnerships with schools; position yourself as a leader in family programming; how to tap into existing community resources from difference sectors or funding sources; and how to develop long-term community partnerships. In this workshop, participants will be offered an opportunity to chare experiences, success stories, share best practices and share issues about programming for family audiences. This session is suitable for small or large community festival and event organizers.

Sharing Success: Volunteer Program Tips and Tricks (from CMA, National Country Music Week)
In 2011, the Canadian Country Music Association held its annual National Country Music Week in Hamilton, Ontario. Come hear how this community built an effective volunteer program to support this highly successful event with over 300 local volunteers. Walk through the volunteer recruitment, training and implementation cycle that utilized a unique approach that engaged all volunteers to ensure commitment, professionalism and enthusiasm. 85% of all volunteers are ready to volunteer for other large events in Hamilton!. See the tools that were developed that can now be used for future large events.

Mocial Marketing 101 - Where Mobile Marketing and Social Media Meet
With nearly 100% of event goers carrying a mobile phone and at least 50% of them carrying a smartphone, the mobile movement is hard to ignore. The large majority of mobile activity is social: texting, twittering, facebooking, posting photos and so on. Mobile + Social = Mocial. The presentation will explore event based texting, mobile apps, mobile campaigns and success stories. It will also cover differences between the iphone, android and blackberry platforms.

Tourism Product Development Using Existing Resources
Extend your festivals and use product development to drive tourism. By taking a look at your own asset base, creating partnerships and packaging existing experiences, you can create itineraries and experiences like the popular Blue Mountains Apple Pie Trail, a year long extension of the Apple Harvest Festival. Get ideas and tips to create your own tourism products.
Thoughtful Entertaining: Using Entertainment to Enhance Your Festival Profile
This session will examine the hiring and use of entertainment to raise the public profile of any festival or event. From hiring famous entertainers to utilizing unusual entertainers to maximizing the use of entertainment, this session will provide some practical tips and advice from two veteran agents in the field.
Going Blue: Eliminating Bottled Water from Your Event
Conventional recycling at festivals and events across Ontario has been replaced with many Ontario municipalities banning the sale and distribution of disposable bottles at event sites. Other event coordinators are taking their green initiatives to the next level themselves by providing hydration stations with access to tap water and making their events reusable-bottle and cup friendly. This session will explore the negative environmental impact of disposable plastic bottles at events, the subsequently evolving practices of hydrating guests at events and festivals, and the impact of bottled water bylaws on festivals and special events across Ontario. Attend this session to find out what you can do to keep your event hydrated.
Social Media - How to Use Facebook to Grow Your Festival
You will learn how to design and build a winning social media marketing strategy, including such areas as: setting and measuring goals, choosing the right platform, contests and marketing campaigns, designing a content strategy content governance, managing negative posts and more.
Your Community as a Canvas - How a Festival can Engage a City in Non-Traditional Ways
Festivals around the world are looking for new ways to engage audiences and to differentiate their event from others. This session will examine how “place” is more and more becoming a major component of any festival plan. The presentation will include examples of how festivals are integrating community assets into programming to make their events unique and to create a sense of community pride.
