Criminal Defense: With 40 years of criminal case experience, Dave Leroy has handled nearly 20,000 prosecutions and defenses, including 20 homicides. Jury and court trials can frequently be avoided by skillful and creative diversions, plea negotiations or preliminary motions. Mr. Leroy tries at least a dozen criminal cases a year, when appropriate, with acquittals, dismissals or other desired results frequently obtained. A criminally accused client must be totally candid and share a responsive and trusting relationship with their lawyer.
Divorce and Family Law: In selected cases, Dave Leroy accepts the responsibility of helping families, husbands, wives and children through domestic crisis. Divorce, custody, financial support, decree modifications, visitation and property disputes all require competent professional advice. A basic retainer of $3,500 to $5,000 is charged, billing is at $325 per hour and court filing fees are currently $129. Appointments are required and referrals to other attorneys are made for those cases not accepted.
Trials and Appeals: A litigator his entire career, Dave Leroy holds a post-doctoral degree in trial practice and procedure from New York University. Lawsuits are costly, time consuming and emotional, but sometimes unavoidable. Thorough preparation, adequate resources, and skilled advocacy can present your position in a manner best calculated for success. The client must be fully involved and strongly committed to a well defined goal with a proper base of facts. These tools win trials. We also handle appeals to the Idaho Supreme Court and various Federal Courts.
Business Clients: Having represented major corporations and small businesses alike, Dave Leroy assists frequently in preventing, diagnosing, or solving commercial problems. Effective business contracts, proper protection agreements, and statutory and regulatory compliance are musts in the modern business climate. A cost sensitive partnership with a good legal advisor adds clout and security to your entrepreneurial mission. Representative clients include companies, manufacturers, franchise owners, retail shops, doctors, dentists, lawyers, and even internationally known lecturers and authors.
Governmental Law: As a former Attorney General, Lt. Governor, and U.S. Nuclear Negotiator, Dave Leroy knows how to solve problems and win results in government circles. Licenses, permits, approvals, franchises and tax disputes require effective advocacy or defense at all levels: city, county, state and federal. Often litigation in state or federal court is required to move government. On such cases, Mr. Leroy has appeared three times before the U.S. Supreme Court, often before U.S. Congress committees and the Idaho Legislature and hundreds of times at planning and zoning boards, medical and professional licensing groups and other such entities. Dave has been a registered lobbyist in Idaho.
