About the Designer
Fabrissa is a closet fashion designer and needlework artisan. From young, Fabrissa learnt her craft sewing doll clothes, bags, scarves, learning needlework techniques from French nuns and taking dressmaking course from Bunka Fashion College. As a hobby, she collects laces, trimmings, batik and sarongs and her private collection of over 20 years consists comes from all corners of Asia from street peddlers, artisans, old shops to end-of-line stock.
Fabrissa's Inspiration
My inspiration comes from the women folk in my family who taught me the finer art of needlework and artisans whom I met during my travels. Uniquely Fabrissa started when I inherited my grandmother’s knitted shawl which kept her warm and cozy throughout her later years. I didn’t want it to just sit in the closet and be forgotten. I started to embellish it with some old laces from her closet to give it an updated look yet retaining the comfort of the warm hug which it had gave to my grandmother. Years later, I came upon a piece of crochet work that my mother in law did not complete before she passed on. In her memory, I started to adorn it with laces and beads and it turned out to be a very wearable, yet trendy and unique piece of shawl. In Thailand, I met an expectant mother who peddled fabric flowers she made from remnant cloths that she collected from the factory backyard. In Vietnam, a grandmother used her only skill of lace-making to support her family. In Philippines, enterprising housewives picked shells to be made into trinkets and buttons. In Indonesia, women learnt from each other techniques in weaving to make a living. These artisans inspire me with their wonderful life stories, commitment to provide a better lifestyle for their families and I dedicate my craftsmanship to all of them.
Snugly Yours, Fabrissa

Whilst clearing some old boxes in the store room, I came across pieces of old batik and
sarong belonging to my grandmother and aunts who adored and adorned Peraranakan
Fashion. This Collection is inspired by the intricate and ethnic designs of Batik.
All the shawls are priced at US$24 per piece excluding shipment.
What makes a Uniquely Fabrissa shawl a one-of-a-kind accessory ?
The laces, ornaments, trimmings and fabric are sourced from all parts of Asia and pieced together by hand to
create an original piece of apparel. No two shawls are alike. The shawl is embellished in contrasting
new old lace and trimmings and each applique is handmade. The fringe of the shawl is decorated for
edge which is a signature of Uniquely Fabrissa shawls. Both sides of the shawl are embellished for
that reversible wear. There is a lot of attention paid to the detailing and the finishing touches.
