A Bit About CanzoneNaples has always been a ‘show’ town and one of the world'’s centers for music. Singers, composers and students traveled from afar to train in the art of song at her famous school. Neapolitan music and poetry, spoken and sung in the local dialect, became a defiant, strong language on its own.By the early twentieth century, the canzone napoletana had traveled to public and private stages in Rome, Paris, London, and New York. Francesco Paolo Tosti, Ernesto de Curtis, E.A. Mario, and Cèsar Bixio imbue their songs of passionate suffering and painful tenderness with a sweet romantic flavor.Two Gypsy Kisses sustains that vocal tradition of nostalgic song with both traditional canzone and Pop-Italian standards that crossed over into American culture.
