Eureka Public School

Eureka Public School offers quality learning experiences and educational programs with an emphasis on literacy, numeracy, technology and the arts. Our school has small class sizes, large well resourced classrooms and flexible learning environments set within the idyllic hinterland of Byron Bay.

With state of the art technology, purpose built play equipment, beautifully landscaped grounds and extensive sporting facilities, students thrive and achieve in a friendly, supportive and nurturing environment. We are a welcoming, friendly school community and have strong co-operative relationships with parents, who are encouraged to be active participants in school decision making and to have valued input into the education of their child.

About Our School

School Grounds

We are very proud of the beautiful grounds and facilities at Eureka Public School.

The school is set on 5 acres of lush green country side and features an organic vegetable garden, an original remnant of the Big Scrub rainforest and many century old trees for the children to enjoy.

All our school building are original, permanant weatherboard buildings and are double classroom size.

Our school library is housed in the original Federation style teacher's residence.

We are adjacent to the Eureka Sports Ground and have full use of an all weather tennis court, cricket nets, cricket pitch and soccer fields.

Our organic vegetable garden supplies fresh produce for our Kids In The Kitchen program and for our weekly tuck shop specials.

Teaching

Literacy Literacy is a core focus area at Eureka Public School. Our quality literacy programs in spelling, grammar, writing, reading, talking & listening and poetry, ensure that students are engaged and excited about their learning. Numeracy Our whole school numeracy program incorporates technology, book work, small group and hands on activities to cater for all learning styles. Students at Eureka Public School love maths lessons. Technology Our school has excellent resources in technology. All learning spaces have Interactive Whiteboards, desktop and laptop computers. Technology is used to enhance planned teaching experiences and ensures our students are confident in thier ability to utilise the latest technology in their daily learning. Creative Arts Visual Arts, Music, Dance & Drama are part of weekly student learning at our school. We employ specialist music teachers and practicing artists to enhance our classroom programs. Sport & Physical Education We encourage all students to participate in a wide variety of sport activities including tennis, gymnastics, swimming, soccer and track & field events. We believe that physical education promotes health, team building skills and self-esteem. Our school has a strong history of sporting success at Zone, Regional and State levels.

Teachers

Michael Coleman School Principal Senior Class Teacher Michael is a highly experienced classroom teacher and school leader. He is passionate about whole school change, assessment for learning, technology, arts education, sport and student welfare programs. As the Creative Arts Consultant in Sydney, Michael produced and directed many large scale arts events including the Ryde & Granville Schools' Spectacular at the Opera House. Locally he produced Northern Stars Under The Big Top in Lismore in 2005. Michael has also been a part of the Production Team of the Schools' Spectacular for over 10 years. A highlight in Michael's career was being awarded a Director General's Award For Excellence In Education in 2006.

Zona Biddle Junior Class Teacher Zona is a highly accomplished classroom teacher with over 20 years of experience. She is dedicated to quality teaching programs in all subjects and has extensive experience in multi-age classes.

Lisa Henderson-Smith Classroom Teacher Lisa works across all classes in our school, teaching Personal Development, Visual Arts, Library and Science. She is an extremely dedicated and highly competant educator and is loved by all our students. Her energy, enthusiasm and dedication to quality teaching ensures her lessons are highly engaging & motivating to all students from Kindergarten to Yr 6

VEGIE GARDEN

The Vegie Garden at Eureka is going very well. We recently won the LIsmore Garden Club competition. We also harvested our potoatoes and cabbages which were very yummy

SCHOOL CAMP

Lake Ainsworth Sport & Recreation Centre

Our students from Years 3-6 recently spent a week at Lake Ainsworth Sport & Recreation Camp. This is just some of the fun that they got up to!
