Frequently Asked Questions...
Q: Is gymnastics experience required to be on the URI Club Gymnastics team?
A: No, all participation is welcomed. The motto of NAIGC is "for the love of the sport," and that is the standard that we expect team members to follow. However, not all team members compete. Personal expectations as well as expectations from the coaches are established at the beginning of the year.
Q: What is the skill level of the URI Club Gymnastics team?
A: The team varies between girls that have just started gymnastics to girls with lots of competition experience. Most team members average the skill level anywhere from USAG Level 6 to Level 10. NAIGC follows USAG Level 9 judging guidelines with Level 9 and 10 bonus opportunities.
Q: How much does it cost to be on the team?
A: Team members pay semester dues that are $75 per semester. There are also mandatory team fundraisers organized throughout the year to help cover the cost of team expenses such as practice facility rental, coaches' salaries, and regular season travel. Team members individually fundraise to cover the cost of NAIGC Nationals every year.
Q: How many practices are there per week?
A: There are four team practices at off-campus gyms every week. Practices begin within the first few weeks of school and last until Nationals, which is held every April. Individual workout plans are coordinated with the caoches, but most team members are expected to attend at least three practices per week.
Q: What are some of the other teams that the URI Club Gymnastics team competes against?
A: URI competes against other NAIGC teams across the east coast. Yearly competitions include University of Vermont, MIT, Boston University, University of Connecticut, and University of Maryland, just to name a few.
