In February 2010, The Eric Eckund Power Trio reformed and gladly invited Anna Fan to the drummer's seat. Immediately after that, they were invited to give a mini concert at SCAT Live TV. The show was highly acclaimed.
For Eric Ecklund being severely Dyslexic has been a reason to sing. Not every white boy from a small town has what it takes to sing the Blues. His music is a revelation of his unique real life stories.
Having done hard labor as an un-unionized stagehand, Eric met Greg Smith: A wise old southerner who originally recited the lyrics to Eric's song Celibate. He worked with Bo Barringer (Me and Joan Collins, the Collisions) who encouraged Eric to be brave enough to sing his songs the way he really heard them.
After hours he learned to use his guitar to resonate extra sound into his voice, out of pure desperation to have a better life than being an exploited laborer. With his sparse yet impacting two piece rhythm section accompaniment (Dave LaVine on bass, Anna Fan on drums), the Ecklund Power Trio moves a lot of air. They take the stage with genuine confidence and transparency and you find yourself sharing in their musical delight!
Eric: I always say I play the guitar on purpose but I don't write songs on purpose, and that is true. My favorite way to practice is to turn on the radio and just learn whatever is on. I think that goes a long way when I leave a voicemail for a friend and then sing "Check your box and call me back". As I walk down the street with that title in my ear and the feeling of my old country boy roots slipping away "I've been living in the city so long I have no shlong" just naturaly came out. Then I supose it's just a matter of me daring to show it to people.
What do you get when you play a country song backward: The guy gets his truck fixed, he makes up with his girl, his dog comes back to life. Country songs have a reputation for being sad. So in An Old Country Song I describe this old song I'm hearing on the radio like it's not very good, but then in the chorus I sing "but it's better than mine". It's a little twist. If you think this old song is lousy, it's better than mine and isn't that just so sad:(
When I was doing A/V work in luxury hotels I met some really sour souls. To me it seemed like an amusment park for business people. lol On many occasions I would have a confrence up and running but someone might be laying into me over a silly detail. I would have been happy to accomidate them even if they were nice about it. I hate to use dirty words but after one such experience I went home and wrote my song A Good Day: "!_#$ *&^% folks I'm only standing here for your pleasure" :)
God bless, and good night.
