2010 Wind Ensemble
Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Band at the University of Washington
The band program has grown the last six years and is now recognized around the state for it's excellence in concert, jazz, and parade marching. The main emphasis is not about winning competitions, but rather building a strong foundation for all students so that they will enjoy music for a lifetime. LOHS band students are highly active in other activities. We have students in ALL school and community sports including crew, equistrian, and lacrosse. Band members are also taking drama and choir. Outside groups students are involved in include Portland Youth Philharmonic, Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, and Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra.
The Wind Ensemble is an auditioned group that consists primarily of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. They perform at several contests/festivals throughout the year as well as all the school band concerts.
The Symphonic Band is made up of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. They perform at all school concerts and the Northside Band Festival.
The Concert Band consists of all freshman. This band performs at all school concerts and the Northside Band Festival.
The Jazz Band is comprised of students from the concert band, symphonic band and concert band and plays at concerts, contests, as well as other jazz gigs around Lake Oswego and Portland. This class is offered during the school day.
The football band is made up of concert and symphonic band members. Wind ensemble members are not required to participate at all games, but may elect to do so for extra credit. We play at all home football games and the playoffs.
The basketball band is a volunteer band. We normally play at 6 or 7 home basketball games and the playoffs.
In the fall we do a school musical and use a pit orchestra made up entirely of students. Students are selected by the director for this production.
