EPIK Dance Company is a street fusion dance company specializing in all forms of street and technical dance, including hip hop, breaking, popping, locking, house, punking, modern, contemporary, lyrical and jazz. EPIK is a collection of uniquely gifted dancers, choreographers and teachers who are passionate about their artform and sharing it with others. You will never meet a more eclectic group of individuals, who each bring their own special skills to the table. They come from all walks of life and experiences, and it is evident in the diversity of styles and personalities present in the company. When working with EPIK, there is never a dull moment!
OUR MISSION
To uplift and unite through the perfect balance of street and technical dance, and the power of music, performance art and community activism.
OUR HISTORY
EPIK Dance Company is a non-profit organization dedicated to uniting and uplifting people by sharing their love of music, movement, and the arts. With a strong core of strong, multi-faceted dancers trained in a variety of disciplines, EPIK has been able to combine classic technical training with urban styles to become one of Arizona’s premier street fusion dance companies.
The EPIK Dance Company vision was put into motion in 2007 by Luis Egurrola and Sarah Dimmick, who shared a love of music and a passion for dance. With the simple goal of promoting the public’s knowledge of dance and fostering their appreciation for the arts, Egurrola and Dimmick began recruiting fellow dancers who shared their love and passion for the performing arts. By finding dancers whose strengths and passions covered a broad range of training and experience, Egurrola and Dimmick were able to establish EPIK as a company that truly appreciated and respected the differences amongst its members. The collaboration that resulted is what allowed EPIK Dance Company to begin to stand out in the artistic community. And they haven’t turned back since.
In November 2007, EPIK Dance Company established themselves when they were named Choreography Champions at the Furious Styles Crew 14th Anniversary Battle – one of the premier dance battles on the west coast. In the year that followed, they performed at a number of events such as WNBA Phoenix Mercury halftime shows, the Mary J. Blige/Jay-Z Pre-Show at U.S. Airways Center, Golden Lion’s Celebration of Dance, and other street battles throughout the state of Arizona. Most recently EPIK was named one of the two finalists in the 2008 Phoenix’s Best Dance Crew Competition and performing during the pre-show for the “America’s Best Dance Crew” concert at Dodge Theater.
Unable to keep their excitement and passion for dance and the arts to themselves, EPIK continues to make community outreach a priority. Whether it be their inspiring and energetic performances or their hands-on workshops, EPIK commits themselves to increasing the public’s knowledge and appreciation of the arts well beyond the realm of dance. Regardless of age, ethnicity, or background, EPIK is dedicated to contributing to giving every man, woman and child an opportunity to develop as a student of the arts and as an artist themselves.
“The beauty is not in our similarities. It is our differences that make us unique...”

Jerome “Ekos” Upayokin
Hometown: Okinawa, Japan
When was the moment that you knew you wanted to be a dancer? When I went to my first b-boy jam in Japan. Even though it was a different culture and country, the essence and culture of hip hop were living hard and strong in the Far East. Hearing the music and the way it made me feel with my body moving to each beat was when I realized that's what I wanted to do. I'm still developing as a b-boy, but I feel that this dance company opened my eyes to a new realm of dance styles and I want to learn them all.

Adrian Mendle
Hometown: Coolidge, Arizona
Education: Bachelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Kinesiology and Dance from Arizona State University.
How long have you been dancing professionally? I am and will always consider myself a student when it comes to dance. From the days that I took "class" with Michael Jackson and Paula Abdul in front of the TV as a kid, to now, when I am learning things from my fellow company members and students.
Favorite EPIK style of dance: I like anything outside of the box. Mixing Contemporary with Hip Hop choreography is one of my favorite kind of styles that we produce.
What or who are your inspirations? I'm definitely inspired by people who can find new ways to look at things. Creativity, in any form, is an amazing trait. Also by those that are funny... cuz I'm freakin' hilarious!

SERVICES
EPIK dancers are known to be chameleons, and this shows not only in their diversity and flexibility of switching from one dance style to the next, but in their ability to adapt to any teaching or performing situation. We are able to customize residencies, workshops and performances appropriate to each community's needs. Most of our dancers are also teachers, and are some of the best in the biz; some at local studios and community centers, some at the public and private high schools, community colleges and universities, and some coach professional dance teams. In addition to our dancers' personal experience, EPIK, as a company, puts on our own 1-day workshops every 1-2 months, and offers open company class almost every Sunday and Thursday. Teaching is part of who we are.
PERFORMANCE
EPIK can perform in a variety of venues; concerts, theaters, festivals, schools, charity events, corporate events, parties, clubs, battles, etc. The possibilities are endless! You can hire 3 dancers or the entire company. If you would like to book EPIK for your next event please contact our booking agent, Ranasha Chittick at (602)469-0626 or ranashadc_yahoo.com.

Workshops / Master Classes / Residencies
EPIK Dance Company is able to structure workshops, master classes and residencies according to the needs of the school or organization. We can teach technique/master classes in many styles and levels from beginning to advanced (breaking, popping, locking, house, waacking, krumping, hip hop, modern, contemporary, lyrical and jazz), as well as hip hop history and culture, choreography, improvisation, yoga/pilates, and creative dance. EPIK can set choreography on the students for performance and/or actually perform with them. We are also able to give in-services to teachers on dance pedagogy in hip hop and contemporary styles. We are capable of doing one-day to several-day residencies. One or several members are available for residencies. Classes, lecture/demonstrations, and interactive dance experiences are all possibilities with the company. In actuality, the possibilities are endless, so feel free to come to us with your ideas!
We strive to make sure that all of our students feel comfortable and have a good experience. The outgoing personalities of our dancers are magnetic, and are sure to bring out the dancer in even "non-dancers." Our goal is to create a fun learning environment where everyone feels safe to experiment and try new things.
EPIK has a knack to move from one style to the next with ease. You don't have to bring in a contemporary company, a hip hop company, and a jazz company. You get it all with us!
We have experience working with all age groups, from 3-70! We are able to develop our curriculum according to the community we are working with.
