ABOUT:
Jay Allen Jones had it all. His critically acclaimed first novel made him the king of literary New York almost overnight. It also won him the heart of editor Emily Grey. But as any artist knows, replicating success the second time around, well that’s not so easy. Jay fears he’s reached the pinnacle of his career, but he’s only just begun.
Reeling and desperate for a simpler life, Jay and Emily retreat to his childhood home of Colorado where he embarks on a new novel: the story of an 18-year-old college dropout named Jamie Gower who is endlessly happy living in Colorado with his girlfriend, Gillian. But four years later, working on the book has given Jay nothing but writer’s block and he refuses to let Emily help him. Powerless as their relationship falls apart and her boyfriend struggles with his book, Emily returns to New York, an act that leads Jay on a whirlwind quest to find his identity and his voice.
What follows is a journey through sleepy Colorado towns and the literary circles of New York where Jay must figure out his novel and his real life. Sometimes, he discovers, the art we create can take us away from the ones we love, but very often it also brings us home.
Andrew Heyman’s multi-layered score, full of searing rock ballads and catchy ensemble numbers, will be played by a four-piece live rock band. Mr. Heyman, who composes on guitar, easily slides between a contemporary rock and a grunge-flavored sound. Zac Kline's book deftly navigates between Jay and Jamie's worlds, creating a compelling and unique narrative structure that perfectly complements the score.
TOGETHER THIS TIME is a
contemporary rock musical
about love, literature,
A hot shot novelist tries
to reconnect with his girlfriend and his art, and finds he can no longer tell the difference between
real life and fiction...
