Ellisa Hartman is a talented young singer/songwriter ready to leap into a high-profile role in the Canadian Independent music scene. Her artistic presence, unique voicing and quirky instrumental timing bring an honest and charismatic sound to the folk genre. At 24, she has written a portfolio of significant songs that would be the envy of many established musicians. Drawing on the spirits of Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell and Sarah McLaughlin, her music moves all who hear it.
In the past year, Ellisa has shared the stage with Allison Crowe, David Gogo, Greg Sczebel, Vince Vaccaro, Acres of Lions, Steph Macpherson, Christopher Arruda, Cindy Davis, and many others. She is currently working on a new EP to be released in the new year, and is eagerly looking forward to touring Western Canada in the spring.
Arising from a musical family, her singing and performing started at age 6 and currently includes 100s of stage performance in community theatre, music venues and clubs. Her vocal prowess is enhanced by experience in a range of instruments with a unique form of finger-style acoustic guitar figuring prominently. Her abilities to blend moments of unorthodox time signature into her songs make musical points that few can match.
Raised on the west coast, her other interests centre around the ocean, She is a master diver and lover of all things marine. Her marine photographs display an empathy and depth of understanding that is reflected in her music and world awareness. This awareness has grown through extensive solo travel in some of the challenged areas of the globe, and yet a sense of fun and joi de vivre permeates her music.
After two years since her acoustic album, Arbutus was released in January of 2009, Ellisa Hartman has finally completed the long-awaited six song demo of her recent and thought-provoking work. With a full band supporting her, the folk/pop music has come alive with an upbeat and charismatic theme that will have you singing her songs for weeks. While Hartman has brought back two popular favorites, Smitten and I Love she has included four new tracks, including Making War, which is the Title Track of the album.
An intimate collection of 12 acoustic songs including a moving rendition of Lenard Cohen's "Hallelujah."
