Map
The Amazon River is the world's second longest river. Only the Nile, in Africa, is longer. However, the Amazon, at any point in time has the highest amount of water flowing down it. No other river even came close. It may not be the longest, but it surely is the widest with a width of 11km.This wide river has over 100 tributaries and 17 of them are over 100km.Humans use the Amazon river mostly for farming and fishing. The river doesnt have any bridges because of its width so if you would want to cross it, it would have to be by boat. The first European found the Amazon because he was 200 miles out to sea and noticed that he was sailing in fresh water. The Amazon river is the home of piranhas and other animals living in the river and on land next to it!
