The Grand Dukedom of East Prussia is a micronation and Sovereign State in the Exile, headed by His Royal Highness the Prince Justin I, Grand Duke of East Prussia.
The Historical territory of East Prussia existed from the 13th century to the end of World War II. Situated along the Southeastern Baltic Coast, it was the historical center of development of the Prussian state.
The capital city of East Prussia was Königsberg, which was founded during the Northern Crusades by the Teutonic Knights in 1255 A.D. Later, East Prussia was incorporated into the Germanies.
The ancient Prussian territories and monarchies have ceased to exist, and the territory of the Grand Dukedom of East Prussia is now spread into different nations, mainly Russia and Poland.
As a micronation, the Grand Dukedom of East Prussia is an entity unto itself, has no affiliation with the former national Prussian government or its hereditary nobility and maintains no diplomatic relationships with the current governments of these countries. The Grand Dukedom has no territorial ambition and is not seeking any type of recognition.
His Royal Highness’ role as the sovereign of the Grand Dukedom of East Prussia charges him to maintain the memory of Prussian tradition, culture and values in the context of a micronation in the modern world.
During the 13th century, the lands of native East Prussia were conquered by the Teutonic Knights. When Prussia became part of the Holy Roman Empire, it was administered by the Teutonic Order Grandmasters. In 1701, the Prince electors of Brandenburg were able to proclaim themselves kings in Prussia.
The territory comprising the original Prussia became known as East Prussia and from 1701 to 1945 shared a common history with the entirety of Prussia. East Prussia remained the stronghold of the Junkers, the Prussian landowning, military aristocracy, whose vast estates dominated a large portion of the province. East Prussia was separated from the rest of Germany from 1919 to 1939 by the Polish Corridor and the Free City of Danzig. It was bordered by Poland and Lithuania in the south and east and stretched to the Baltic Sea and Memel in the north and northeast.
At the end of World War II, in 1945, East Prussia was overrun by Soviet troops and about 600,000 citizens were killed. The majority of Germans who had not left by the end of the war were expelled by the Polish and Soviet governments shortly after its end. At the Potsdam Conference (1945), East Prussia was divided by two transfers; the transfers were made permanent by treaties between West Germany and Poland and the USSR that were signed and ratified between 1970 and 1972. The northern part was assigned at Potsdam to the USSR; it includes the cities of Kaliningrad, Sovetsk (Tilsit), Chernyakhovsk (Insterburg), Gusev (Gumbinnen), and Baltiysk (Pilau). The rest was incorporated into Poland as Olsztyn province; this part includes the cities of Olsztyn (Allenstein), Malbork (Marienburg), and Elbląg (Elbing).
Prince Justin I and the Grand Dukedom of East Prussia proclaim the East Prussian invasion, massacre and division of lands to be a terrible crime against the entirety of Prussia. Prince Justin I makes no territorial claims,
but rather seeks to uphold what once was in the form of a modern day micronation.
