To complement and enhance the healing effects of specific Chiropractic manipulative treatment, we at Heartland Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center, also provide the following physiological therapeutic procedures:
Ultra Sound: This is the use of high frequency sound waves which increase blood flow for increased nutrition and fuel delivery and to soften scar tissue and breakup adhesions. It also softens scar tissue and relieves pain.
Electrical Muscle Stimulation: There are many different types of electrical stimulation for many conditions:Low Volt – used for reducing muscle spasm and pain relief. High Volt Galvanic – used for reducing muscle spasm. Russian Stimulation – used for strengthening muscles in "Pre"-rehab. Interferential – is electrical stimulation, which reduces pain and swelling. Iontophoresis – also is a pain and swelling reduction technique. Micro Current – Increases cellular metabolism to speed healing.
Traction: This is used to reduce pressure in the spine with conditions with spinal arthritis and disc injuries. Sciatica and more. Traction also helps the intervertebral disc rehabilitation and increasing blood flow to the intrinsic structures of the spine.
Intersegmental Traction: This is like a roller massage table, also referred to as Combi-tables which employ heat, vibration and intersegmental traction. This increases blood flow to the discs, spinal ligaments and musculature. This also stretches and softens scar tissue, ligaments muscles and intervertebral discs also intersegmental traction activates acupuncture associated meridians on the back which help the body heal.
Hot Packs: These relax muscles, increase blood flow, and speed healing. Cold Packs: Used for decreasing pain and reducing swelling.
Acupuncture: Dr. Winkle is MTAA board certified. Each and every approach is a sterile one and can be combined with electrical stimulation.
Massage: Heartland Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center is proud to have Dana Kisner, LMT on our staff as a Massage Therapist.
If you're comfortable enough to sit for a few minutes, the first thing we'll ask you to do is fill out a patient-registration and health-history form. *(or you can print and fill out the new patient form attached below and bring it in with you for a more expedient visit.)
You'll be asked to answer questions about the specific problem that brings you into the clinic on this particular day, and about your overall health, your general level of physical activities, and about any previous injuries and treatment you've had. The basic background information Dr. Winkle needs to know.
After that, you'll be brought back to one of the examination rooms.
Then, Dr. Winkle will come in and meet with you and look you over. In addition to a general physical, orthopedic, and neurological examination, a Chiropractic examination also includes detection of tenderness, restricted joint movement, levels of pain, and any other signs of neck, back and joint problems. Whatever hurts, wherever your pain is, this is what your Doctor will be evaluating and talking to you about. When that's done, Dr. Winkle will tell you what he or she thinks is going on -- medically speaking, give you a brief report of findings -- and if you're in agreement, move ahead with the appropriate treatment right then and there, during that very first visit.
Depending on the results of your examination, Dr. Winkle may decide that X-rays are necessary. X-rays, when taken, provide a "blueprint," or outline, and information that may bring about a more favorable outcome to treatment -- information about your spine's alignment, or stress areas. They may also be used to rule out tumors, fractures, and other hidden conditions. Once a specific diagnosis is made, your Doctor will give you a treatment that will reduce the pain you're in and start to correct the cause of your spinal dysfunction.
By gently and precisely manipulating specific joints, Dr. Winkle may adjust your spine to improve your spinal alignment and motion, and relieve muscle spasms, pressure, or irritation. After your adjustment, you may feel immediate improvement, although most people experience a gradual, progressive relief of their symptoms.
After this initial appointment, our plan will be to start you on a short course of treatment that can last anywhere from two to six weeks (due to the fact that every case is individual, your treatment time could be shorter or longer than this). Initially, you may set up two or three appointments pretty close together. Let's assume you rated your pain -- on a scale of 0 to 10, 10 being the most severe -- at a five or above. Your next appointment will probably be the following day. If you're experiencing a situation where the onset of pain was two or three weeks ago, and now it's more nagging, we'd probably do a treatment and see you next in a couple of days. After every ten visits, give or take, we'll want to re-evaluate your condition to make sure we're hitting the benchmarks we've set, and can see whether we're bringing about the desired results
Your Doctor may prescribe other treatments to help restore your spinal alignment and function.
Heartland Chiropractic & Rehabilitation Center is equipped with the finest of therapeutic modalities, including ultrasound and electro stimulation to help reduce pain and swelling. Additional braces and supports may be prescribed to relieve pressure on your spinal joints.

"Thank you Dr. Winkle from the bottom of my heart, for all you help and patience. I would still be suffering today if not for you! Thank you again, so much and God Bless you for being so wonderful!!!"

"I have been a patient of Dr. Winkle's since May 2000. This is my first experience with chiropractic. I have always been afraid to go to a chiropractor all my life until one day a good friend of mine was worried about me and told me i needed to go see her chiropractor. I was so glad my friend talked me into trying out Dr. Winkle. I was still afraid the first day, but Dr. Winkle eased me of my fears. He is gentle, and has done wonders for me. I don't have the pain i did when i first came in. I hope this will help someone that has the fear and is afraid of trying out chiropractic like i did."
Juanita B

"Dr. Winkle has been a lifesaver for me! A lot of people don't realize that a chiropractor can help with stress but it can. My job is very stressful and the stress attacks my neck and shoulder area, with Dr. Winkle's care i am able to deal with the stress a lot better and make it through the tougher days! He is very genuine and concerned with his patients well being; he is always there when needed. I highly recommend Dr. Winkle to anyone considering chiropractic care!"
John F
"Dr. Winkle is the only doctor i have ever met that really is more concerned with his patient's health and overall well-being than with the financial status of his patients. The signs in his office are not just placards. He really cares about his patients. His staff is wonderfull too. They know each and every patient by their first name and their condition. How many other doctors or their staff can do that? I thank God for them."
Pamela H
"I have a herniated disc, it has caused me severe back pain, leg pain, and head-aches. Since Dr. Winkle has started acupuncture on my back, both my back pains and head-aches have gone away. Than you for being a caring doctor."

What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on the relationship between the spine and nervous system. When the bones in your spine are not moving properly, or are out of their proper position, irritation to the nerve of joint may occur. This can manifest in the form of numbness, tingling, pain or burning. Chiropractic care and the adjustment/manipulation of the spine restores the proper position and movement of the bones and joints within the spinal column and/or extremities.
Chiropractic is a drug-free method of health care that emphasizes locating and treating areas of spinal misalignment, improving the functioning of the body, thereby eliminating pain. The symptom of pain is how your body communicates to let you know that something is wrong. Chiropractors deliver 94% of all spinal manipulations/adjustments in the United States.
Doctors of Chiropractic are specialists in neuromusculoskeletal conditions. They are trained to restore the misaligned vertebrae to their proper position in the spinal column. They do this manually, utilizing the chiropractic procedure known as the "spinal adjustment or spinal manipulation." Usually, we will use our hands in applying corrective pressure to the spine in a specific direction and location. The manual force or thrust helps restore the alignment and mobility of the vertebrae.
Are X-Rays required?
Not every patient needs to have x-rays taken. It will depend on your condition and information obtained from your examination. If there has been a recent injury such as a car accident, or fall, x-rays will usually be taken to make sure nothing has been broken.
Can I have chiropractic care after back surgery?
Yes. Rest assured that your chiropractic doctor will avoid the surgically modified areas of your spine. Surgery often causes instability above or below the involved level. These areas will be the focus of your chiropractic care.
How old should a person be before he or she begins chiropractic care
Chiropractic patients range in years from birth to old age. The spinal adjustment and treatment approaches are tailored to each individual patient. For example, a 300 pound truck driver's treatment will differ form a treatment to an elderly person. Chiropractors are well trained to tailor their approach based on the individual.
How does chiropractic care help during pregnancy?
Because of the additional weight and stress on the framework of the body in pregnant women, chiropractic adjustments can help lower the incidence of pain in the low back and legs, and between the shoulder blades. In some cases, fewer headaches and problems with nausea and elimination may also result. Many chiropractors care for expectant mothers in the regular course of their daily practices.
Will I have to keep going to the chiropractor forever?
No. Most cases seen by doctors of chiropractic will respond in a relatively short period of time. In certain cases, longer treatment will be recommended, but on average it may take 12-16 visits. Once the original condition that caused the pain and discomfort has been resolved, it may still be necessary for you to return from time to time for supportive care. Our goal is to get you out of the office and to return you to the activities you were doing prior to your injury. Some conditions however, which have been present years may take longer to heal and correct. An example of this may be the person who has a 20-year history of low back pain with arthritic changes in that region. Four weeks of care will not be able to "undue" the years of damage, hence, a longer period of treatment may be prescribed. The fact is, some people have neglected their ailment for years and hence, their condition may take a while to correct.
