Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. was nationally established on December 6, 1998 at the University of Houston by seventeen South Asian women who recognized the need for an organization to promote the advancement of South Asian women. They came together with the common goal of uniting women among the South Asian community. The Founders created the backbone of this sorority on the basis of the five pillars of Sisterhood, Respect, Loyalty, Honesty, and Friendship. They envisioned an organization that would highlight the diverse South Asian culture through participation in community and social service projects.
Through determination and perseverance, this vision evolved into a reality and as a result, Delta Phi Omega has become a highly sought after organization for South Asian women across the United States. With each passing year, Delta Phi Omega continues to grow and make its presence known not only within their respective universities but also within the community and today is known as the nation's largest, strongest, & fastest growing sorority of its kind.
Zeta Chapter History
In January of 2002, the idea of starting a South Asian sisterhood at the University of Maryland, College Park was first proposed. After numerous informational meetings and discussions, an interest group was formed that was determined to give South Asian women a strong voice and active involvement in the Greek community. They felt that it would be beneficial not only for the surrounding community that they would be supporting, but also themselves as these women were on a path to self exploration and lifelong sisterhood.
The eight founding mothers of the Maryland Colony were given a warm welcome into the Delta Phi Omega family on May 4, 2002. They were given much support and encouragement by members of the Greek Community and existing South Asian organizations on campus as they were officially the first South Asian Greek organization at the University of Maryland!

Information
on Becoming a Sister
Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. is steadfast in its mission to transcend the traditional notions of a sorority. Our paramount objective is to bring awareness and continual support to a sometimes overlooked children's cause, which is ensuring each child, regardless of race, religion, or creed, a quality education and the power to read.
Not only do the sisters work tirelessly for children's education and literacy, the sisters also deem it imperative to spread our volunteerism to numerous other causes and non-profit organizations. The sorority believes that lending a helping a hand in any and all volunteer events helps mold each sister into a well-rounded individual and teaches her about the importance of altruism as well as the positive aspects of giving back to one's community.
Sisters across the nation come together to help Pratham in their struggle to raise funds to provide education and books to children in South Asia. Delta Phi Omega proves its commitment to only children's literacy but also to its cultural roots through its support of Pratham.
Zeta Chapter sisters dedicate their time in their local community by working with underprivileged children in Washington D.C. through an organization called Little Friends for Peace.
