Throughout the nation, all Delta Phi Omega chapters and colonies participate in an annual Literacy week in which all money and awareness raised goes towards the cause of childrens education and literacy. Half of the money raised is donated to a local charity of the colonys choice while the other half contributes to an organization the sorority supports nationally. In the past, Delta Phi Omega has supported their national beneficiary, ASHA for Education and PRATHAM.
The IU Colony of Delta Phi Omega supports the Children's Department of the Monroe County Public Library. The Monroe County Library takes part in the national early literacy initiative through the Every Child Ready to Read program. Early literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write. The program works with parents, caregivers, and early childhood educators about six critical early literacy skills. They also have chosen UNICEF as a beneficiary. They raise money through fundraisers to donate to this organization.

Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. was founded at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas on December 6, 1998. The seventeen National Founders recognized the need for an organization to promote the advancement of South Asian women. Seventeen women from various backgrounds came together with the common goal of uniting women among the South Asian community. The Founders created the backbone of this sorority on the basis of the five pillars of Sisterhood, Respect, Loyalty, Honesty, and Friendship. They envisioned an organization that would highlight the diverse South Asian culture through participation in community and social service projects.
The Indiana University at Bloomington Colony was founded by 8 determined women, Aaki Bhargava, Nikhita Bhateja, Preya Dave, Anisha Kumar, Ashley Narsinghani, Nishi Patel, Pritika Patel, and Sonam Thadani on April 15th, 2009. They wanted to combine their South Asian culture with the Greek community, and also bring the important elements of the sorority to their campus: social, service, and sisterhood. Through hard work and determination, Delta Phi Omega has finally arrived at the Indiana University campus.
