Dogsense is a business where behaviour specialist Hal Cooper can come and teach you the techniques to become the leader of your pack. He can show you how to put a structure into your walks, deal with aggerssion towards other dogs and humans, as well as other behavioural issues dogs can develop.
He does this in a number of ways, he empowers owners to take control of situations they would otherwise panic or worry about. He can also use his dogs to work alongside him to use as positive role models.
Hal will visit your home and discuss the issues you feel are present and work with you to overcome these issues. He believes that it is essential to gain pack leader status if you want to develop a deep and meaningful bond with your dog however to keep it takes will power, commitment and a desire to make a real change in the relationship you have with your dog.
Hal's History
Hal's always had a love of dogs, from a very young age the family always had a pet dog. Like Ceaser Millan, Hal believes in the power of the pack and that owners need to be the leaders of the family pack. He also enjoys adding friends and family pets to his pack for long walks and owner support.
He is currently undertaking a dog psychology course.
Hal's Pack
Hal has three dogs, one dog named Thai who is 6yrs old a bitch named Loralai (Rori for short) who is 7yrs old and a 7 month old puppy called Hierra . Both Thai and Rori are rescue dogs who came with their own behavioural issues - all of which have been addressed and consistently re-enforced.
Hierra is currently under going training to become a close protection dog under the guidence of a friend who has been a professional in this field for many years.
He also has a son who at eighteen months old is able to play fetch with Thai and Hierra. He is also able to have very mild games of tug with them which they always let him win.
STRESS
BEHAVIOURAL
Dogs lack the ability to lead a human life, by bringing a dog into the human world we take on the responsibility of navigating the dog through our world.
Behavioural issues can stem from many life experiences your dog may have had. However they can be easily corrected with the right attitude, commitment and leadership from knowledgable pack leaders.
INSECURITIES
Insecurities can come in many forms and can vary greatly from a fear of shiny floors to walking down curbs, if left unaddressed fear can over come your dog causing her to shut down, at this stage only a calm assertive pack leader can help your dog through her issues.
AGGRESSION
Aggression should not be tolerated in any form. Whether it's a growl over food or a full on attack. Happily this can be one of the quickest issues to address.
NEW ARRIVALS
New arrivals whether human or otherwise can be a very stressful time for dog. Proper introduction is essential to maintaining a balanced pack.
Whatever problems you feel that your dog may have I can help you to develop a strategy to help your dog get through any of the issues mentioned above. Most of these can not be corrected overnight and they will take consistent reinforcement from every member of your human pack. One last thing; I truly believe that we get the dog we need not necessarily the one we want. Our dogs can teach us so much if only we can take the time out of our lives to learn. They are really beautiful examples of living for the moment.
OTHER PROBLEMS
TERRORTIAL
Without proper leadership dogs can become very possessive about things they see as theirs, from a toy to a home and in extreme cases you.
Working with Henry
Recently Hal's been working with a rescued Springer Spaniel, dealing with aggression towards other humans, over protection of his owners and threatening behaviour towards other dogs while on a walk. With guidance and support from Hal, Henry's owners have been able to become the pack leaders in the home and on walks. Henry has also been making doggy friends.
Working with Tori
Tori has become a new project for Hal. He is supporting one of the owners to become the pack leader in the home and take ownership of other members of the family pack
Working with puppies
Hal has recently been asked to support a family with a puppy in their home. He is helping to set clear rules, boundaries and limitations.

" We couldn't believe how much we could achieve and what an improvement in just a few hours. Our pulling monster on the lead was walking perfectly in under three hours. This has made such a difference as he is so much more relaxed and less stressed. We have learnt so much from Hal and really understand the importance of how the pack works and how our family pack needed to take control. Although our dog is only a young pup with the right begininng thanks to Hal he is on track to grow into a great dog and has the right boundries in place. The great thing is we can call Hal whenever we need advice which really helps with each development stage in a dogs life."
Nikki (Lutterworth)
"Thank you for your help last week with Henry. The change in his behaviour is vast. From an extremely aggressive and territorial response, whenever people come in to our house to a calm and relaxed dog. Henry was unsure being round children and other dogs you have really helped him a lot. All the little things you have taught u...s are seemingly, so inconsequential but huge to Henry’s behaviour and life. We have learnt so much from you. Thanks again. We recommend you to owners of dogs with behaviour problems."
Louise (Broughton Astley)
Hal has been brilliant with my German Shepard,Tess. She has had issues with letting people into the house and she was not coping very well with meeting other dogs whilst out on her walks, also people or dogs walking behind her would unsettle her greatly.
On the first visit Hal was able to enter the kitchen where i had put her prier to his arrival and in about ten minutes she was sitting calmly next to him on a leash. Much to my amazment she even walked next to him past a few dogs that have in the past cause her a problem. Later she even met Hals dogs and even had a play and let them into the house play with her toys and drink from her water bowl. Hal has done more for Tess in two visits than others have done in months; I highly recommend him.
