Who am I? I am D'Lissa, daughter of the Most High God. smile. Forgiven and washed by the blood of Jesus Christ. Grateful beyond words.
I have been a christian for 25 years and married for 24. My husband, Tom, got the call from God to start a church (Breath of Life Christian Ministries)15 years ago on May 12th, 1996- Mother's Day here on the island of Kauai where I grew up. I was 34 yrs. old, pregnant with my 3rd child and just learning to play the guitar, something I had wanted to do since I was a kid. Tom had just bought me a guitar a few months prior for my birthday. I guess the Lord was planning to give me the desire of my heart, but it was going to take some work and alot of faith.
My best friend and greatest encourager, was Dondi Ho, daughter of the late- great Don Ho, and my favorite person to worship with. We usually sang acapella because neither of us knew how to play an instrument. We instantly became Breath of Life's worship team. The church began with us and one other couple.
I had learned 3 chords and a handful of worship songs that I could play. I remember my husband saying "Baby, you gotta learn more songs!" .
I sincerely tried to learn the contemporary worship that I loved, but was just not skilled enough. Out of desperation I began to write my own songs, as we waited for the REAL" worship leader" to appear, so our little flock wouldn't be tortured. smile.
My songs were very simple. They were my prayers to the Lord and in return, things He was speaking to me.
That was now15 years, and close to a hundred songs later.
It's funny, that worship leader never showed up and it was not that long ago when I realized, "Hey, I guess I'm the worship leader!" Ha!, the Lord has a sense of humor. I have maintained writing "new songs", although my chord repetoire has grown a bit. smile. I guess it was His plan all along.
I am D'Lissa. I am not a musician or an artist. I am a worshiper of the King of kings and Lord of lords. My songs are still simple. Still the prayers of my heart and in return, what He speaks to me. They are "new songs from the ends of the earth". Love songs to Jesus. They restore hope, get the focus back on our King and build up faith. They are also full of God's love and His desires for us, mankind.
Today, our precious children are 19, 17 and 14 years of age. They truly amaze me. God is GOOD and faithful. Our little flock is closer to 300 people, we have grown in the grace and knowlege of our Lord together...very cool. I am completely in love with my Savior Jesus Christ and my husband, who truly continues to be my knight in shining armor. BIG SMILE.
