DJ J.Boogs – 33 years old (aka Jon Joaquin) began deejayin twelve years ago upon his completion of college at Villanova University. His aspiration to become a deejay began when he was ten years old in the basement of the house he grew up in Bloomfield, NJ. With a furnished basement (set up like a lounge) with bumpin dance floor lights, Boogs took a liking to mixing records from two different belt-drive turntables using the Phono 1 & Phono 2 knob on his family's stereo. Through his teenage years, his parents kept him grounded and never submitted to buying him his own equipment to mix and scratch records. Boogs continued to work mixer-less and made mixtapes from his outdated vinyl collection...each song alternating left and right as each song transitioned. The closest he got to deejayin was watching JUICE over and over again and trying to mimic DJ GQ making his demo tape.
J.Boogs officially began his quest as a deejay when he bought his first turntable with ALL of his summer internship money. Boogs quickly began to mix records together with his other belt drive turntable. His first big break came when he spun a set during a big college party at Villanova DJ’s Phillee Blunt, Panek and Statik of Philadelphia.
He continued to deejay around the college circuit locally and city wide. He was a part of the inception of the legendary Ill Vibe Collective and owes his knowledge of hip hop and as a deejay to the whole crew.
Boogs continues to deejay independently, taking everything that he has experienced with him to every event he performs at. He dipped into the mobile circuit deejayin alongside DJ DME30 for Soundomatic Entertainment, one of the most prestigious mobile deejay companies in the Filipino community of NY/NJ/PA. Boogs has had a great experience throughout his deejay career, deejayin coast to coast and alongside talented deejays such as DJ Neil Armstrong (5th Platoon/Jay-Z’s official tour DJ) and at Citizens Bank Park, home of the 2008 World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies.
The sounds of elementalVIBE is one to incorporate various types of music and mix them into a party vibe. Boogs continually educates himself on the various genres of music. From classics from the original hip hop days to 70's soul to 90's hip hop, progressive house to latin soul...Boogs is open to all types of music.
Boogs currently find himself behind the beats...mixin and remixin...listening to VINYL. He continues to work on mixtapes and mini mixes for everyone to hear. He loves to blend old school with new school. You can still catch J.Boogs behind the 1's and 2's performing at various venues.
