Do Indian films need songs?
Amongst many aspects, the presence of film songs differentiate Indian films from other national cinema. What is its significance? Should this music exist within the context of film or externally, as an independant music industry similar to other popular music cultures?

Indian Film music composers have always been referred to as music directors, a usage from their early 20th century practice of directing live orchestras.
