Hosted by Disabled Sports USA at the Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge, Colorado, The Hartford Ski Spectacular is one of the nations largest winter sports festivals for people with disabilities with more than 850 registered participants annually! The programs offered during this week-long event include learn to ski and snowboard lessons, a race camp, Level I (Corporate Challenge), Nordic skiing, PSIA National Adaptive Academy for Instructors, mentoring training, banquets, and other special evening events. The title sponsor of the event, for its 18th consecutive year, is The Hartford Financial Services Group.

Equipment Rental

Adaptive Equipment
Adapted ski equipment (mono-skis, bi-skis, outriggers, etc.) will only be provided for Learn to Ski lessons. Adapted ski equipment for use during all other clinics, races, and recreation must be provided by the participants.
For the safety of all involved the maximum capacity for a sit ski is strictly 220 lbs. Sit skiers may be weighed onsite to ensure they are within this limit. If a participant is over 220lbs, they will be unable to sit ski at this event.
Ski Bikes
Ski Bikes are permitted only within clinics and must have appropriate stickers from Vail Resorts at The Hartford Ski Spectacular. Please obtain your ski bike permit sticker by calling the Vail Adaptive Program at (970) 754-3264 or contacting your local ski resort.
Disabled Sports USA will provide instructors for all clinics registered for (Learn to Ski/Snowboard, Learn to Advance Your Skills, Race Camp, etc.); however, individuals with visual impairments must provide their own guides.

Vail Resorts offers a five-resort season pass, called an Adaptive Pass, to people with special needs or disabilities at a significantly discounted price.

ALPINE SKIING & SNOWBOARDING
Open to participants with physical disabilities at all ability levels. Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) certified instructors, utilizing the latest in adapted ski teaching methods, will teach students on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Adapted ski equipment will be available to all students during lessons. Stand-up skiers must provide their own ski(s) and poles. NORDIC
The Hartford Ski Spectacular features Nordic and Biathlon lessons to skiers of all abilities. These clinics are offered free* of charge to those registered for the event and are taught by leading experts and coaches. Featuring current and former Paralympians, U.S. Paralympic team coaches and U.S. Biathlon staff are on hand to share information and lend expertise about these growing sports.
Transportation to the Nordic Center leaves daily from the front of Beaver Run Resort promptly at 930am. Transportation returns between 12 and 1pm. Participants must be pre-registered.

MID-LEVEL RACE CAMP (12/5-12/9):
This camp is for athletes with disabilities that have demonstrated skill in skiing and a desire to learn how to race. This camp is an opportunity to develop fundamental skills essential for successful entry level racing.
ADVANCED RACE CAMP (12/5-12/9):
This camp is for athletes with disabilities who have or will be participating in NorAm Level II races in the 2011/2012 ski season. This is an opportunity for emerging athletes to experience race training at the elite level.

U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing National Team
Level I Race (12/10):
An entry level race designed for developing athletes to gain race experience on less challenging terrain.
Corporate Challenge Race (12/10):
Held in conjunction with the Level I race, with teams comprised of able-bodied and disabled athletes.

IPC Alpine Athlete Medical Classification will be offered at The Hartford Ski Spectacular (by appointment 12/9) . This is the only IPC Classification opportunity in North America. Available for racers who need to be classified for internationally sanctioned races.
PSIA-AASI NATIONAL ADAPTIVE CONTINUING EDUCATION ACADEMY
Open to ski instructors and instructor trainees. Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) certified examiners and clinicians will teach the latest in adapted ski teaching methods. Programs are offered in all disciplines and levels of disabled ski teaching.
All participants must provide their own equipment. Lift tickets are NOT included with the clinic fees.
PSIA-AASI units are available upon request.

Additional Programs
Bridging the Gap: from recreation to competition
DSUSA will once again be hosting this clinic to educate instructors about ski racing and emerging athletes., offering both an introductory and advanced level. Introductory topics will cover governance (U.S. Paralympics and IPC), athlete qualification standards and basic requirements for starting a race program, while the advanced session is mostly on-hill covering training tactics, course setting, drills and more.
Adaptive Snowboard Level I ITC
Three days of training and verification. Successful participants will earn Adaptive Snowboard Level I cert.

One of the nation's largest ski events for individuals with disabilities, attendees include medical professionals, disabled athletes (from beginner through elite), clinicians, volunteers and winter sports instructors.
