LOVE IS A GAME OF ECONOMICS
by Ali Choudri
Such terms as supply and demand or competition are frequently used when explaining economics. They can also pertain to everyday life whether we like to admit it or not.
My thesis is that personal economic environments will determine accessibility of love. If one resides in a society where individual economic situations are held in high regard then love will therefore be difficult to attain. On the other hand, love will flourish in a neighborhood where socioeconomic status means next to nothing.
I am basically stating that the cityscape consists of egotistical, superficial monsters while the countrysides are filled with people who make more with less. This is a generalization but more common than not. There is no coincidence that New York City is famous for its rudeness and the Midwest is known for being the best place to raise family.
The best explanation for this phenomenon could be the need to want more. You see all different types of people for all different walks of life in the cities. Just wait 5 minutes and eventually you'll see someone cruising down the street in a brand new red convertible. They have it and you want it. Women see it and they will do what is necessary to get it.
The country is a different story. Sit down in Main Street is some nowhere town in Iowa. If a car passes in a 5-minute period chances are its a pickup truck. Residents come into contact with each other on a daily basis, therefore, rudeness is not an option. The cost of living is drastically less expensive. Reduced stress creates more time to enjoy life. Overall, you become a more pleasant person.
City living is cramped. More people than housing was planned for. New York City for instance has up to 9 million people. Any attractive woman can take her pick because of the vast selection of men at her disposal. Competition works in her favor. Not so fortunate in the country. Often a handful of teenagers live in a small town at a given time. Thin pickings for everyone so one must do the best with which one has.
The demand for love is high. Supply of lovely women is low. My experience is proof neighborhoods with a higher median income produces more arrogant citizens. I live in such a neighborhood in New York City. Not many people with smiles on their faces but plenty of fancy new rides in the driveway. In contrast, good old middle-class areas provide down-to-earth people who are willing to converse with you on demand.
Those infatuated with economic fortunes are incapable of love. Money has become their love. It has polluted the soul. The easy-going country folk have all the time in the world to love. Money is not on their mind and their mind is not on money. Both lifestyles have pros and cons. However, country life is a solid bet if you cherish potential love over wealth.
The Dark Knight (2008) was the first Batman film to gross over $1 billion worldwide. Is it that good? A great film no doubt that should have been considered for Best Picture. I’m sure you will agree when I say that the film wouldn’t have made as much if it were not for Heath Ledger’s death in January of 2008.
Batman began with Detective Comics in 1939. He was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger after Robert the Bruce of Scotland (depicted in “Braveheart”) The first archenemy to Batman was Doctor Strange followed by The Joker, Peguin, Two-Face, The Riddler, Mr. Zero (Mr. Freeze, Catwoman, etc.) Batman (1966) was the first Caped Crusader motion picture starring Adam West as Batman and Burgess Meredith as Peguin. The Joker and Catwoman also appeared to take down the hero. It was a decent film for its time.
Tim Burton was hired to direct a modern Batman film. He cast Michael Keaton from which he worked with on Bettlejuice. It was an unpopular pick by fans because Keaton was considered a comedic actor. Jack Nicholson was given the role of The Joker in order to attract older fans. Billy Dee Williams played Harvey Dent, district attorney of Gotham City. Batman (1989) was a summer blockbuster hit.
Warner Brothers signed Burton to direct another film. Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer were tapped to play Peguin and Catwoman respectively. Burton created his own origin story for Peguin, which differed from the comic books. The film, Batman Returns (1992) was a box office success but the film was noticeably darker than its predecessor.
Batman Forever (1995) went into production after an animated film hit theaters just two years prior. Warner Brothers, however, was not happy with Burton’s previous film. They told him to lighten up the tone. He declined to change anything in his directorial style. Keaton would leave the project. Val Kilmer took his place. In retaliation, Warner Brothers replaced Burton with Joel Schumacher, the man who directed The Lost Boys (1987).
Burton would remain as executive producer. A major scene where a security guard is killed by choking to death on a circulating ceiling fan was immediately removed. “Forever” was instead filled with neon lights and a new actor, Tommy Lee Jones, for the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Critics gave better reviews for Batman Forever than Batman Returns and the audience listened. “Forever” also made more money.
The decision was made to make Batman & Robin (1997) for children. Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy and George Clooney as Batman. This film is undeniably the worst in the franchise. Schumacher was forced to basically make a children’s movie. A fifth film was planned, Batman Triumphant, but never made. Multiple directors proposed a new take on the character. A Batman vs. Superman film was even considered followed by a Batman Beyond flick.
English director Christopher Nolan was given a shot at Batman. His film, Batman Begins (2005) told the origins of Bruce Wayne and Batman’s first days as the Caped Crusader. Some ignored “Begins” because of the distaste for Batman & Robin. Nolan introduced Scarecrow and Ra’s al-Ghul in his version. The film made over $300 million worldwide. Warner Brothers allowed Nolan to make another Batman film. The Dark Knight (2008) would retell the story of The Joker. It probably would have made $300-$500 million worldwide if Ledger had not died just six months before the theatrical release.
For his role, Ledger won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Viewers of The Dark Knight found themselves watching a film about The Joker, not Batman. The film also won an Academy Award for Best Sound Editing. These accomplishments have led to buzz about a third installment.
Christopher Nolan has already made it public that The Dark Knight Rises (2012) will be the last Batman film that he will direct. He will then executive produce a reboot of the Superman franchise. Christian Bale, who plays Batman, has also told reporters that this will be his last Batman film. Plot rumors flood the internet. No one knows who will play Batman’s new enemy. We know that Nolan likes to introduce new foes that haven’t been in previous Batman flicks. I suspect that Doctor Strange will be included. My other hunch is that Harley Quinn will made an appearance to take revenge on Batman for taking down her love, The Joker.
We do know that Tom Hardy has been cast for a role. Nolan is considering various female actresses including, Natalie Portman, Blake Lively, Naiomi Watts, Scarlett Johansson and others. One will be a female villian and the other will be a love interest. I believe that the love interest will be Talia al-Ghul, the daugher of Ra’s al-Ghul. “Rises” will wrap up the trilogy. Elements from “Begins” and “Dark Knight” will appear in the new film. More information will be confirmed when the script is finished. Production is said the start in March or April 2011.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport. Not only is it the world's fastest production car (it hit 268 miles per hour last summer in Germany) but it is also one of the most refined--with interior cues taken from its sister company, Bentley. Its cockpit is wrapped in hand-stitched soft-grain leather and trimmed to the hilt in carbon-fiber; the rear-view camera, Bluetooth capability and Satellite radio make driving to the store a pleasant experience rather than the sweat- and stress-inducing jolt provided by other exotic autos.
The Super Sport's exterior is hot too, with bold lines that look modern but evoke Bugattis from the 1920s and '30s (a continuous crest line down the length of the car, a stirrup-shaped grill).
Sure, you'll pay for all that beauty--at a retail price of $2.5 million, only the world's wealthiest people can afford to put a Super Sport in their garages. But those lucky enough to do so will really get something special: A balance of 1,200 horsepower, three suspension settings and a world-renowned dual-clutch transmission.
It's a real physical sensation," says Bugatti driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel. "The Bugatti is incredible because if I give you more performance, it will normally destroy and contort drivability and reliability, [but the Super Sport can be] controlled with only two fingers on the steering wheel."
Bugatti's not the only marquee coming out with stunners. Ferrari's street-legal 599XX variant, the GTO, the elegant Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 FSI Quattro and McLaren's first-ever solo production car, the MP4-12C, will quicken lots of heart rates when they hit the streets next year.
One common thread between some of the hottest new cars is an emphasis on weight control. Almost every car on our list, including the Range Rover Evoque, boasts a streamlined frame, light-as-air carbon fiber components or a super-efficient, whittled down engine.
