Current Conductor of the Akademisches Orchester Freiburg and Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquestra Filharmònica de Cambra de Catalunya and the Ensemble der Sächsichen Gesellschaft für Neue Musik, Diego Martin Etxebarria graduated in Orchestral Conducting at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. He has also studied with Maestros such as A. Ros-Marbà, B. Aprea, J. López Cobos, G. Gelmetti, Lutz Köhler,...
Granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation first, and then by the DAAD in collaboration with La Caixa, he followed his studies at the Hochschule für Musik "Franz Liszt" in Weimar with Prof. Nicolás Pasquet and Prof. Gunter Kahlert and then at the HfM "C.M. von Weber" in Dresden with Prof. Christian Kluttig and Prof. Ekkehard Klemm.
He has served as Assistant Conductor at the Bilbao Opera House (with Riccardo Frizza and Donato Renzetti), the Royal Opera House in Madrid, the Stadttheater Bern (both with Titus Engel) and at the Spanish National Youth Orchestra.
From 2004 to 2007 was the Artistic Director of the Art Ensemble BCN and during the seasons 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 he was the Principal Conductor of the Orquesta de los Conservatorios Públicos del País Vasco (Orchestra of the Music Schools from the Basque Country). He has also guest conducted the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao, Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Erzgebirgische Philharmonie Aue,...
