Every one of our scarves is unique and handmade in Ethiopia. As a non-profit organization, all proceeds from our scarf sales are given directly to their creators in rural Ethiopia. With the money raised through the Irdata program, families have been able to send their children to school, start small businesses, and move beyond subsistence living. Although our scarves are sold for well under market value, your purchase and generosity will empower families to create bright futures for themselves and their communities.
Irdata, which means help or generosity in the national Ethiopian language, Amharic, is a non-profit organization selling homemade Ethiopian scarves to the general public with the intentions of funneling proceeds to their impoverished creators.

Pictured are members of a scarf-making community outside of Addis Ababa. On average, they require about 6 hours to make one scarf, usually making two in a day. The more elaborate scarves can take up to two days to complete. Selling their scarves at the local merkato or bazaar, they generate enough income to pay for food and to keep a typical home, shown in the photos here. However through Irdata, they are now producing enough money to send her children to school, an opportunity they never had. By buying an exquisite Irdata scarf, you are empowering people like Kefya, Muluka, and Berhanu to change their lives.
