Welcome to UCLA Delta Gamma!
As president of the Alpha Sigma chapter of Delta Gamma, I would like to welcome you to our website. If you are interested in recruitment, I encourage you to explore our site and learn more about what it means to be a DG at UCLA! For all alumna and active members, welcome home.
Being a Delta Gamma means so much to me and to the women I am fortunate enough to call my sisters. Our chapter is comprised of an incredibly talented, diverse, and accomplished group of women. Each member brings something special and unique to our sisterhood. UCLA Delta Gammas volunteer as philanthropists on campus and in the local community, serve on student government, write for the Daily Bruin, and boast competitive jobs and internships. Whether they are scoring the winning game point for one of our fantastic UCLA athletic teams, performing the lead role in a campus theater production, or broadening their horizons by traveling the world, my sisters are never short of accomplishments.
Although we keep busy, DGs sill manage to squeeze in plenty of time for fun. My favorite UCLA memories have been made with my sisters roasting smores over a bonfire at the beach, cheering on the Bruins at a football game, and dressing up in crazy costumes together for one of our many social events.
Becoming a DG was the best decision of my college career. I am so proud and honored to be a part of our chapter and the ideals we represent, and I can say with confidence that my fellow members feel the same way. I have made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime, and if you are considering recruitment, I hope you give yourself the same opportunity! Enjoy exploring our website and seeing what our chapter has to offer its members.
Love and ITB,
Annalise Ashdown
President, Alpha Sigma Chapter
Delta Gamma
Delta Gamma was founded by Anna Boyd Ellington, Eva Webb Dodd and Mary Comfort Leonard in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, at the Lewis School for Girls near the University of Mississippi. The Founders sought to maintain high ideals and standards and to encourage intellectual growth and service in order to exemplify college women at their best.
Today Delta Gamma is an international womens fraternity that continues to place a strong dedication on personal values and standards, academic excellence, leadership and service. Delta Gamma encourages each member to strive for excellence and offers the programming and support to help each member reach that commitment. Delta Gamma offers its members the experience of sharing the strong bonds of sisterhood for a lifetime.
Delta Gammas membership has grown to more than 142,000 women worldwide with 146 collegiate chapters and more than 250 alumnae groups across the United States and Canada.

School Spirit
Attending the University of California, Los Angeles is a banner of pride each Delta Gamma carries proudly. DGs are known around campus for their consistent and strong presence at every UCLA sporting event imaginable. We proudly invite our fathers to join us down in LA every Fall quarter for Delta Gamma Dad's Day, in which we tailgate a UCLA football game with them and bond over our unstoppable Bruin Pride! Our contagious spirit is also well-known during such UCLA events as Bruin Bash, a free concert for students to kick off every school year, and Greek Week, a week of games and competitions to strengthen our Greek bonds with other sororities and fraternities on campus. In fact, Delta Gamma (as part of the Gold Team) took home the trophy as Greek Week winners for the 2009-2010 school year!
Further, we participate in a wide range of campus activities, including Spring Sing (a highly-respected musical production in which Delta Gamma has been represented every single year), the Student Alumni Association, the Campus Events Commission, the Undergraduate Students Association Council (UCLA's student government), as well as a multitude of club/IM sports and countless campus organizations for various causes and interests. Needless to say, one of the best parts of being a DG is always having a sister around who can open your eyes to a club on campus you've never heard of, or who will be more than willing to paint her face blue and gold with you to cheer on our mighty Bruins! As Delta Gammas, we know we have much to offer our campus and our community, and we take pride in successfully doing so year after year.
Academic Pride
Let's not forget that a large part of demonstrating school spirit takes place by succeeding in the classroom. The ladies of UCLA Delta Gamma offer not only beauty and an enthusiastic spirit, but brains as well! We consistently lead the row with one of the highest GPAs, even achieving the #1 GPA four quarters straight during the 2008-2009 school year--a trend we will continue to strive for in the academic quarters to come. In order to remain competitive and successful in academia, our house leaders, including Director of Scholarship Ariane Chee, constantly develop new and exciting ways to ensure that scholarly achievements are at the forefront of every DG's mind. Such activities include Professor/TA dinners at least once a quarter, Study Parties the weekend before midterms and finals weeks, our very own study room complete with Test Files from every Delta Gamma who preceded us, and an online interactive network that informs DGs of which sisters are in their classes, creating an easy format for us to arrange study groups and other activities so as to achieve the best grades possible. It is through these methods, as well as the natural determinism in every Delta Gamma, that we are proudly represented in nearly every academic club and honors society on campus, including ALD/PES Honors Society, College Honors, Dean's Honor Roll, Golden Key Honor Society, Latin Honors, the Order of Omega, and many others. Every June, when we must say goodbye to our graduating class of sisters, we do so with the utmost honor, as our women leave us proudly decorated with honors, many even graduating cum laude or higher. Delta Gamma women are beautiful, fun, and energetic, but we pride ourselves above all on being a house that puts academic performance first--after all, getting a degree is the reason we're all here!

Service for Sight
Delta Gammas generously donate more than 90,000 volunteer hours each year to a variety of service organizations, emphasizing service to the DG philanthropy - Service for Sight. Our chapter is privileged to have the the Delta Gamma-founded Blind Children's Center located right here in Los Angeles. Because we are so close, our chapter is able to visit this special school regularly. DG's frequent the BCC during recess, attend fundraisers, and decorate holiday cards for the visually impaired children. Our annual philanthropy, a swimming competition called Anchorsplash, raises money for Service for Sight, and our commitment to helping those who struggle with vision impairment also extends to the elderly and to assisting the UCLA Jules Stein Institute with sight research.
Blind Childrens Center
Delta Gamma's in the Southern California area founded the Blind Children's Center in 1938. The center offers programs and services to children with visual impairments in order to build their skills and independence. Over 100 children and their families utilize the infant and preschool programs that the Blind Children's Center offers. Due in part to Alpha Sigma's efforts, the BCC is currently expanding its program to include first and second grades as well! Funded entirely by private philanthropic support, visually impaired children are able to lead a meaningful life with help from the BCC. For more information, please visit www.blindchildrenscenter.org.
Golden Anchor Program
With the help of our past and current Vice Presidents of Foundation, the UCLA chapter of Delta Gamma has recently started participating in the National Delta Gamma "Golden Anchor" Program. This program extends our help with the visually impaired to include the elderly. Beginning Winter Quarter 09, DGs began volunteering at the Westwood Horizons Senior Center every Saturday evening. Located just two blocks from our house, we are able to walk to the Center for swing dancing, socializing, and playing games with the residents--a weekly tradition that we will be continuing in the 2010-2011 school year!
Other Philanthropy
In addition to volunteering at the BCC, Westwood Horizons, and hosting AnchorSplash, Delta Gammas participate in the philanthropy events of all other Panhellenic sororities and IFC Fraternities--ranging from inner-tube waterpolo to 5 v. 5 dodgeball, philanthropy events are a huge part of what makes Greek Life so fun!

The Alpha Sigma Chapter prides itself in cultivating strong ties with Delta Gamma alumnae. Our most recent Founder's Day included a reunion for the Alpha Sigma pledge classes of 1950 and 1960, among others. We honored many members celebrating their 50th and 60th anniversaries as Delta Gammas with brunch at the UCLA Faculty Center, and we listened as they shared their favorite DG memories with us all. Alpha Sigma also connects with the West Los Angeles Alumnae Association and recent graduates for trips to the Getty, brunches at the house, and so much more!
If you would like to learn more about Alumnae Relations, please contact Hannah Marlin at hmarlin_ucla.edu.
"Not four years, but for life."
