HISTORY
GLOBAL DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES FOR YOUTH, INC. started on March 29, 1989, in Seat Pleasant, Maryland as Mid-County Youth Services. In 1990 Mid-County Youth Services, Inc. was incorporated and in 1991 received its federal status as a non-profit corporation. In 1994 the Board of Directors voted to change the name to Global Developmental Services for Youth, Inc. to reflect the changes of a growing and expanding corporation. From its inception, the corporation has served thousands of young people and their families from around the world. Our organization has received numerous awards, citations and recognitions from local, state and national leaders, agencies and organizations.
MISSION STATEMENT
GLOBAL DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES FOR YOUTH, INC. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation whose mission is the development of mental, physical and social skills of youth between ages 10 through 18. We provide alternative learning opportunities and strategies for children and youth who are under-served and who need additional help in basic pro-social skills development, leadership development and self-empowerment strategies. Toward this end, we have worked diligently with agencies and businesses to acquire resources and establish initiatives to improve skills and create greater opportunities for parental/guardian control. Accordingly, G.D.S.Y., Inc. offers its services with integrity, equality, commitment and competence.
ENROLLMENT
GLOBAL DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES FOR YOUTH, INC. enrolls youth between 10 through 18 from a cross-section of the community. All youth are welcome to enroll regardless of race, creed, religion or nationality. Youth participants are recruited by other youth and they are also referred by school administrators, counselors, Juvenile Services, police agencies, and by parents who are seeking assistance. Thus far, the corporation has served over 3,000 youth and their families.
