For drum triggering, MIDI recording and monitoring we are using the trusted, tried and true Alesis DM-5. Please note that Toontrack EZ-Drummer (all expansion packs) is mostly used for acoustic sample playback and the audio from the DM-5 is usually only monitored while recording to eliminate any latency issues.
Simple Productions is fully equipped to multitrack- record acoustic drums on the road or in the studio, we highly recommend our clients record with an electronic drum kit. Here is why:
Little to no set up time (less time you have to pay for)
Ability to edit the performance via MIDI
Little to no bleed problems when recording live off the floor
Drum sounds not at the mercy of kit condition or surroundings
Ability to freely change sounds and samples after tracking
Mesh heads offer realistic feel
