Stencil artwork by dom dunlea
dom dunlea
Also painting under the name 'deed', dom has been cutting stencils since the early eighties, spraying images of cult icons onto friends school bags and books in order to fund his record collection.
He recently began spraying onto canvas, with his first piece selling as it was being hung on the wall of a local establishment!
subject matters...
The main focus of dom's work is predominantly the urban landscape and he also has a fascination with derelict industrial buildings, although his commissions have covered all sorts of subjects from, pets to people, and trucks to trainers!
stencil work
All dom's stencil work is created using muliple layers of hand cut stencils, applied using spray paint. Some pieces being made using up to 12 stencils, the more intricate pieces taking days to draw & cut out.
Having a fascination with the four colour process used in the printing industry, dom is currently experimenting with this process using stencils to achieve a full colour image.
This style is extremely labour intensive and intricate and takes at least 12 stencils to achieve. The first picture un this style is called 'Gridlock' and can be seen on the portfolio page.
