What is DECA?
DECA is a co-curricular student organization that prepares students to become future leaders and entrepreneurs.
The co-curricular nature means that the content that is learned in the classroom is applied in DECA. Students take part in case studies which represent real-world problems that need to be solved.
DECA has opportunites for students to compete at the local, state, and international levels in topics ranging from Marketing, Finance, Business Administration, and Hospitality and Tourism. During the competition students take part in role plays to solve real-world business problems in that industry. They present their strategies to a panel of judges and take a content test in the field to hopefully take home a trophy and a sense of accomplishment.
DECA also has various trips and leadership conferences where students have the opportunity to experience new surroundings by traveling the country and networking with other students.
If you are feeling really ambitious you also have the opportunity to run for officer positions at the local and state level which would help prepare you for many leadership opportunities in your future careeer.
Next time you see those students wearing those DECA blazers you should know that they are on the road to success early in life. I hope you consider joining this elite organization and test your limits!
The marketing program at Bowling Green High School partners with local employers to give students an authentic work experience in a marketing related career. While the students are learning the intricacies of the field they are able to gain valuable work experience and generally are paid for their efforts.
Aligning work experience is the responsibility of the student, however, the marketing instructor has many valuable contacts in the community to make the job search process much easier.
We continue to strive to build strong relationships with local employers because they help our local economy and our students. Please support the businesses that partner with the marketing education program the next time you are out in town.

Marketing students are known for their excellence especially at Bowling Green High School. We have had many students who graduate with honors and compete at the highest levels in DECA competition.
In order to keep the tradition of excellence strong we have a screening process for all admitted students to the program. The criteria that you will be assessed on are your grades, attendance record, teacher recommendations, availability of transportation, and willingness to work. If you feel that you can meet the criteria set forth you have an excellent opportunity to join one of the best classes offered at BGHS.
Not to mention you will also receive college credit through an articulation agreement with Owens Community College as well as earn 3 credits towards graduation. In the meantime, you also have the opportunity to earn a steady paycheck that you can save up for college or purchase some things on your wish list.
We cover exciting topics in our marketing class as we learn about advertising, personal selling, retail managment, market research, and many more things that will help you prepare for college and a future career. Throughout the year we have fun projects to complete that will prepare you for the business world!
If you want to experience a truly unforgetable senior year then click on the BGHS Marketing Application button to fill out an application and return it to Mrs. Kelly to be considered for our legendary program at BGHS.
