Welcome to the David Collett website! We’ve had a fantastic past year here at DC, and we hope to make this next year even better! Here at DC, we pride ourselves in having excellent hall spirit, legendary socials and great success in sport. DC also provides essential contribution to 'raising and giving' and action in the community. We are renowned for having a great hall spirit and a great attitude to getting involved, this helps our hall be the best in Loughborough! Many of the other halls will say they’re the best but we know we actually are! DC is located on campus just a one minute walk from the library and a ten minute walk from the union.
David Collett is run by our very own elected committee of dedicated students who are here to make sure that all of you have the most amazing fresher year that you could possibly ask for. We will all do our best to make sure that fresher’s week 2010 will be one of the GREATEST weeks of your life and that the DC/Loughborough experience continues right through the year!

Freshers 2010
DC is a catered hall 7 days a week and is the only hall on campus with this privilege (so NO cooking at all! Just the occasional take-away!) This means 3 meals a day and 2 meals at weekends. We are conveniently situated close to the engineering departments and a 2 minute walk from the centre of the Student Village and only 10 minutes from the Union!
We are one of the most sociable halls on campus and have regular social events, ranging from outrageous fancy dress and formal balls, to quiz nights and the famous Barge Trip!
We love to get you involved in IMS (Intramural Sport). Whatever you're into... from Football, Netball and Rugby to Water Polo and Volleyball... we give you the opportunity to play, whether you are an elite athlete or just a beginner, we will cater for you.
But if you aren't the sporty type then dont worry! Loughborough is the top University in the country for RAG (Raising and Giving). You can choose to take a trip to many cities across the UK to raise money; or if you prefer more of a challenge then theres Tough Guy, or a Skydive... even climbing Kilimanjaro.. and many more!
Appointing Fresher Helpers was an impossible task since so many people who wanted to come back and help. This proves what an amazing hall we have and I dont know anyone who hasn't had an amazing time!

Hall Chair: Matthew Walshaw
Hi, I'm Wally, DC Hall Chair. As hall chair it is my duty to lead the committee, and make sure you the fresher are having the best times of your lives here in Loughborough!
David Collett itself is a very special hall! Being one of the newest halls on campus means the rooms here are of a high standard, giving you more than enough room to feel comfortable and settled into what is essentially your new home!
The committee here are honestly some of the nicest and greatest people I have ever met in my life, full of students who have been through the freshers year and know how it felt, and how enjoyable it was!

Vice Chair: Liam 'Chip' Trump
Hi, I'm Chip, Vice Chair of DC. Its my responsibility to ensure that Wally is doing his job for the hall and to help him and the committee out whenever needed. My role also means I fill in as hall chair whenever Wally isn't here.
Furthermore, I get the job of running internal social events like our world famous Quiz Nights and DC Day.
Im sure you freshers are going to have the times of your lives here at DC.. Lets work together to make us Hall of the Year 2011!

Sport Secs
We are in charge of Intramural Sport (IMS) which is massive at Loughborough. There are over 40 sports to get involved in and play against the other halls - as you can imagine the rivalry is fierce. Its therefore important to get people out to support our teams and make as much noise as possible!
So even if you are not the sporty type, coming along and supporting your hallmates at matches is always a great laugh. Hall spirit is high in DC and we have some great teams turning out every week and doing us proud!
Loughborough is the best place in the country to play sport so make the most of the world class facilities and get involved! Out of the 16 halls DC finished in 6th place at the end of this year, but we are looking to improve each year and with your help we can do so!

Hello sexy freshers!!
We are Kirsty and Xav and we are your social secs for your first year at Loughborough! Thanks to us, you're first year is going to be unforgettable! You're fortunate enough to be a part of the best hall on campus - DC!! With the help of your fresher reps, Mike and Rikki, we have lined you up with what will be the best week of your life...Freshers 2010! And it doesn't end there...throughout the year we will continue to bring you epic socials such as the christmas and summer balls and the infamous, yet deadly, barge trip!! We work with your sports secs on occasion to teach them how to party and help organise sports socials for all the DC IMS teams!!!

Freshers Reps
We are Mike (Bazza) and Rikki (Rikkles) and we are your fresher reps for the coming year. We are here to sort you out with an incredible fresher two weeks to make sure you settle in and make loads of new friends straight away.
Your new freshers fortnight will be the best two weeks of your life. We have a cracking line up for you new D.C freshers, it's our treat so enjoy!!
We'll be getting to know you as soon as you turn up. So don't hesitate to come and find us with any queries you might have.
You'll be thrown into the deep end straight away, but don't worry everyone else is in the same boat. Even your amazing fresher reps went through it. So start working on those voices for the sing off and those poses for the many cameras.

RAG Reps: James Soper and Sadie Whitlock
Hi, we are Sadie and James and we are your RAG reps for your first year at Loughborough. If you didn't already know, RAG stands for raising and giving and is our halls way of giving money to charity.
Big RAG events include going on the vairous RAG raids all over the country, Mayors Parade and helping with commerical events. Getting involved is a great oppurtunity to meet people, raise some money for charity and have fun!
There's always alot of competition between the different halls for who can raise the most, so to boost enthusiasm within DC there will be prizes for the biggest fundraisers, so be sure to look out for events during the year!

Hey, Im Lou and Im your DC Action Rep.
Action is all about volunterring and it enables us to help the local community. There are loads of projects to get involved with - varying from helping the elderly, litter picks to gardening projects. You can get involved with any of these projects as there will be many throughout the year!
Each person that helps gets a free action
man or action woman t-shirt and I am
introducing a new scheme to David Collett
this year which will mean the person who
helps the most will win a prize at
the end of term.
Action is a great way to meet new people and
looks great on your CV so get involved!

Alright freshers, I'm Paddy 'Paddles' Sheppard and i'm your FREEC/ Residential rep for DC. I deal with any problems you may have with the hall in general to ensure DC has the highest possible standards. I also look after the common room so you guys have somewhere to chill/recover after a hard days work/heavy night out. So if you have any issues at all don't hesitate to give me a shout and i'll try my best to sort it out for you.

Hey, I am your Secretary for DC. I write all the minutes at meetings to ensure we, as a committee keep on top of all our responsibilities and help to keep everything running as smoothly as possible. Im also in charge of organising stash, which is personalised university merchandise, which is made available to students at certain times throughout the year. These include the hall crest and the students nickname, a great way to remember your stay in halls. Along with these responsibilities I am here along with the rest of committee to make students stay in DC the best it could possibly be!

Hi, I'm Aidan and I'm your David Collett media representative. You will probably see me around during fresher's week capturing all your escapades on camera or working on the fresher's video, which will provide you with a perfect memento of your fresher's week at DC.
I am also responsible for advertising for all the great events during fresher's and for the rest of the year!

DC Day 2010 is a day that we host every year which is completely subsidised by the hall. We hire out a Bouncy Castle, Sumo Suits, Rodeo Bull and a Bungy run all for you to use for free! Its always an amazing day and one of the highlights of the year...
DC Sports Day 2010 was an afternoon of healthy competition between all the blocks with both mens and womens events taking place. The overall winners were D Block with E Block coming a close second!
