The Bothey Clock Tower
The clock tower at The Bothey in Ottershaw Park, Surrey is an 18th century structure which had fallen into disrepair over the past 20 to 30 years.
The main structure consists of four main supporting timber legs which come up through the house, these had decayed to a point where the structure was unsafe.
After installing a complicated system of scaffolding to support the structure we removed each leg at a time and replaced with green oak timber sections using glass fibre rods and epoxy resin.
We then stripped off all of the lead work and panels encasing the legs, replaced the base to support the new lead and fitted the new oak panels, we then replaced the timber panels under the copper roof, these had been ruined by the weather.
The Bothey clock tower has now been restored to its former glory.
Repairs completed using adhesive materials supplied by RotaFix®
The Henry Moore Project
The Henry Moore foundation was a very interesting project due to the complex cuts and resin splices that had to been dome.
The sills on the conservatory had started to fall apart due to ill fitting of the gutters above that had allowed the rain water to flow over the gutters and back on to the sills causing them to rot away. The sills therefore all needed replacement.
We started by removing all of the existing glass panels, storing them safely, cutting out the damaged sills and removing the first 250mm of the glazing frames.
We then made and fitted the new sill with the new 250mm glazing sections we previously removed. These were held in place with expoxy resin and carbon fibre rods provided by RotaFix®
Tring Beam Replacement
A 17th Century building in Tring, Herts had severe structrual timber beam failure.
It had to be replaced quickly as it was the main roof truss for the building.
The weight of the roof tiles were pushing out the walls and subsidence on one exterior wall had made the truss unsafe.
We took down the ceiling and propped the structure to make it safe.
We next removed the old beam and replaced it with a four part beam made from kerto and spliced the joints with Glass Fibre rods and Epoxy resin.
When installed we replaced the ceiling with original lathe slats and finished with a lime plaster.
Merlots is an old school house in Ware that had a very substantial leak in one of its walls that had caused water to pentrate the floor joists.
Our first job was to remove all the floor board and cut out the rotted joists, then replace them with glulam beams which had very intracate splices and joints held together with glass fibre and carbon fibre rods.
A flat roof in high bury had started to leak and so had to be replaced.
Vegetation had grown under the old felt over many years and had ripped the joints..
The lantern (sky light) had also fallen into disrepair so instead of repairing it we designed and built a new Oak lantern which was very similar to the old one.
We used double glazed units of glass to cut down on heat loss.
