Deck for a Senior Program
Just Decks is launching its Deck For A Senior Program (DFAS). One fortunate senior citizen will be chosen to have their old unsafe deck, torn down and a new, high quality, deck constructed onto their home. Just Decks will build the new deck at no cost to the senior that is chosen. Construction will take place in August 2009.
Just Decks is doing this in an attempt to save lives and prevent injuries, due to Deck Collapse. The goal of this program is to create public awareness about the possibility of deck collapse at every home or business. Unsuspecting homeowners are living at risk daily, with imminent collapse decks on their homes. Each year there are injuries and deaths across the country due to the increasing number of decks that collapse. In one year alone, over 118 injuries occurred from deck collapse.
Just Decks (member of the North American Deck & Rail Association and
Consult-A-Pro) is launching an all out effort to create awareness and education about deck safety. For several years, Just Decks has conducted free deck inspections, in an attempt to help keep families in our community safe. We are asking for the involvement of local leaders, community groups, activist and the media to help us get the word out GET YOUR DECK INSPECTED.
Just Decks Builds first deck for senior citizen
Congratulations to Mrs. Cumberbatch, a resident of Dekalb County, as she was selected to have her deck rebuilt through the Deck For A Senior program. In an attempt to create public awareness about the ever growing threat of deck collapse, Just Decks has created the Deck For A Senior Program. This selected seniors poorly constructed deck, was completely rebuilt by Just Decks at no cost, as a part of their community give back program.
Her poorly constructed deck would have certainly collapsed and possibly caused injuries, without Just Decks involvement in this cause. Their mission is to prevent deck collapse and injuries in our community. There have been 23 people taken to the hospital in Dekalb and Gwinnett County in the past 2 months due to deck collapse. It is the hope of Just Decks that the Deck For A Senior program will grow and expand as more sponsors support this program. There is now a senior discount program for those seniors with decks that are in the most danger of collapsing.
For several years, Just Decks has conducted free inspections, in our community, to raise awareness about the insidious problem of deck collapse. This is done twice yearly. Deck Collapse caused over 118 injuries, during a one year period of time across the nation. There are also a number of recorded deaths , all preventable. This ever increasing, under reported hazard, knows no boundaries. No deck should be taken for granted.
