What we do

Danbury-VITA, Inc. is a non-profit organization that works in conjuction with the IRS and other national and local organizations to provide services to the public. The services that the Danbury-VITA office provides are made possible not only through its partnership with other agencies and organizations, but through the assistance of its dedicated volunteers.Although Danbury-VITA's main focus is free tax prepartion, the scope of the organization's services has expanded to assist the public in various avenues.

Who we are

Danbury-VITA, Inc. was established in 2010 and is a non-profit organization whose primary focus is free tax prepartion through the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Through this program Danbury-VITA is able to offer tax preparation services year-round and has a staff of volunteers that speak 6 languages (English, Spanish, Portugese, Vietnamese, Chinese and Thai).
In addition to tax services, Danbury-VITA has also developed a number of other services that include ESL courses, earned benefit program screening and financial literacy courses. The overall goal of Danbury-VITA is to provide services that will assist and empower clients in various educational and financial capacities.

Free Tax Preparation |In conjuction with the IRS and other agencies, the main priority of Danbury-VITA is to offer tax assistance to clients who fit the IRS's criteria for free tax prepartion. Danbury-VITA utilizes a group of IRS-certified volunteers to prepare tax returns for clients throughout the entire year. In addition to current year tax returns, the Danbury-VITA site is also able to assist clients with past year returns and other various tax needs.Individual Tax Identification Numbers | Danbury-VITA agents are accredited and IRS-certified to offer individual tax identification numbers (ITIN's). These allow individuals to prepare their taxes and gain a sense of responsibilty as a regular tax payer.English as Second Language (ESL) Courses | Basic, intermediate, and advanced ESL courses are given year-round. These courses are geared towards providing individuals with the knowledge of the English language that will allow students to succeed in their personal and professional lives.Financial Literacy Courese | Danbury-VITA offers financial literacy courses that teach the skills that are critical to financial stability. Individuals walk away with the knowledge of how to manage their money and obtain financial goals.EarnBenefit Screening | In conjuction with the Department of Social Services of Connecticut, Danbury-VITA screens individuals or families in need of support for assistance programs such as: -Husky (A&B) -Healthy Start & WIC -Care 4 Kids (Child Care Subsidy) -SNAP -Energy Assistance -TANF
